Thread: It's Sad but True, Funny but Disappointing...

You know a profession needs some serious work when one of the top things peoplecomplain about is the inability to leave the profession without destroying the city hall and griefing an entier city of paying SOE customers in the process.

Sad = That so many people want to drop politician.

True = That theres no way to leave office easily.

Funny = That Mayors who cancelled accounts on Valcynmonths ago are still listed as mayor of their cities.

Disappointing = That the devs are willing tolet this simple problem go on for so long. It should be as easy as going to the voteing terminal as the Mayor and deleting your name from administrater list or clicking resign button which then clears the terminal for the next vote to elect a new Mayor.

Its a sad, sad state of affairs.

all the devs need to do really to make it easier is turn auto vote off, then active players can go vote for who they want, because in RL my vote doesn't automatically go to the current president if I don't go to the voting booth

It's not that simple at all.

In RL you have filing deadlines, legal election restrictions, court involvement, etc, etc. Since none of these things are particularly fun and sound code intensive, SOE didn't implement them.

In game, without auto-vote, what's to stop the challenger from waiting until 10 minutes before the city updates at 2:30 AM or whenever to actually file for the election? He and his 3 buddies will be the only people voting that cycle!

Oh gimme a break!@

If you're trying to leave office so desperatly, give up your Politician skills altogher and remove City Hall and have the new mayor immediately place one and have thecitizens vote for him.

It's not because the autovote is on - it's because you can't get 51% of your citizens to vote- and if you can't get the majority of citizens to vote for a new mayor then the city shouldn't have one util then.

If your city/ies permittedmultiple accounts, cross serverpplto place homes, declare and vote or some other method to inflatea city'spopulation- that's your own doing.

As a Mayor or a running candidate, you should have an really good picture of the state of your city, how many houses you have, how many realandactivecitizensyou have. Your probably evenknow who they areand whentheyare online. Are you in control of your city or the city in control of you ?

Go to your City Management terminal andfind out who actually lives there.Send them all an email (immediately after the city update to give you a whole week)add them all to your friends list and get to know who is online and who no longer logs in. Contact them individually. If they are NOT online - tip bank them one dollar. Pass the word - go recruit. That's what it takes.

Of the hundreds of cities we have, I don't see this as amajorproblem. Even if a mayor went to a terminal and removed themselves - you'd still need 51%.

Well I'd say that around 60% of our city is active but I know for a fact that not everyone is online every week. Hell I'm not even on every week. LOL

I try to stop in for at least 30 minutes each day when I know I'm not available to play much but sometimes that's not even possible.

So the automatic voting thing is really stupid in my opinion. I loved it when cities first started out but now that cities are all built up and running I think it's time to remove it.

Just make it so the politician needs to declare that he's running for office before the start of the next weekly period in which he'll be running. The encumbant mayor would receive an email and after the election this politician would be put on the ballot along with the mayor.

No griefing, plenty of notice, and it wouldn't take much to make this happen.
Heck for those who want you could still make it autovote for the mayor as long as nobody is running against them so as to get them xp faster.

autovote is good thing.. (at least for gameplay reason)but mayor should have the power to resign...

or have it "auto resign) after 4 weeks of inactivities... (that sounds fair) to another candidate that running against him

If there is more than one.. then the one with more votes

*feels the need to copy and paste my response to Dawsons posting seeing he cuts and pastes his little tirade in every post complaining about what has been, and still is a major ongoing problem*.

Nods heartedly in agreement with Prelaunch though.

because your 60 or so friends in your city that has restricted residence due to zoning all vote, I KNOW for a fact that I can get enough people to vote for me if I ever needed people too, and I know I can get enough to vote after every update to retain me or if they want to they can vote me out, it would also be easier like you say to turn auto vote off, have the mayor stay in if noone votes at all, they just don't get xp or place a minimum on amount of xp per day and at the same time put in a deadline to get in as a candidate, you need to do so more than 24 hours before an election....that coded in would be a lot better than not getting 50 people to vote for some one else because you have 99 people in your city and want a new mayor, but 50 people are in active for various reasons

I've repeated myself in a few posts, YES, cause I'M SICK AND TIRED of hearingof it.

Change the subject will ya. It's not autovote that's you're problem - it's because for whatever reason - you can't seem to get the majority of your cities votes and you want an easy way.

Now, if you truely have active citizens and you're truely active in becoming the next mayor, that shouldn't be a problem to canvas them all in 7 days to get a majority vote and if you didn't win the first week, then you all keep trying.

I had someone from another server wanting to place 20 houses in my city and I kindly refused - thank you. Many problems, we create ourselves. It's not really a major problem. Ask yourslelf why you not getting the 51% votes from among your citizens.

maybe you could open a bit your mind and realise that's the problem isn't only because people use cross server and such alt...

when you have a 70 peeps city, it's already hard to get 36 peoples vote once in the same weeks... especially when some of them are inactive temporaly cos of exam period for example... like a PA... a city will hardly have all it's citizen active at the same time... especially the big ones....

imagine with a metropolis, you have to send that citizen mail but also contact everyone personnaly to be sure they havedone their duty (because they tend to not see the mail or just forget...).... about 50 people have to vote, just because you wanna change the mayor... I think it's a pain to do and a real waste of time

lol, are you serious when you say to try again everyweek... do you think player are only this to do... 3 month i planned my city everyays, i had to switch mayor 2 times... first was a failure because many peoples came inactive before... then i recruited new acive citizen and make them all vote... took me a month... just to switch the mayor, really funny...

this isn't my view of the game and I can't accept argument like "if you had active people it would be easy, otherwise just destroy your city..."

the autovote isn't bad at all.... the bad things is that you can't switch mayor easily when the 2 mayor are agree and one would like to resign...

And the simple reality is that people are leaving this game in droves. So how do you deal with that oh mighty Mayor Dawson? Maybe we can organise a door-knock of their r/t residences and ask them nicely "I know you have left the game, but you can you please log back on and vote for this player". Give us a break will you.

It's not because of alts, or cross server trades, or anything like that that most Mayors have difficulty getting unelected, its because the people who were playing at one stage, who dropped a house in your city, who were active for ages, can now no longer be bothered to log on or have left the game completely. Their are player cities full of ghost residents. Some have gone and are intending to come back, some move to other servers, but most as far as I can tell have just gone and may or may not come back when SE gets released.

I know of lots of people who cancelled their accounts over the summer, and I know that most of them didnt tell anyone, they just did a spur of the moment "I'm pissed off with this game" click cancel to continue. You can ask people all you like to let you know they are leaving, to undeclare residency, etc, but most, when their minds are made up to leave, just leave without a thought.

These people who like to blame everything on the Mayor, who have nothing better to do or suggest that to tot out the old "well it must be your fault you cant get people to vote"and who love to continually see the grey shades as nothing more than black and white really tick me off.
