Thread: Server boundaries negatively impact your city?
Message Edited by hajihill on 05-03-2004 04:04 PM
Yes I have this issue in my city but its a much bigger problem the 2 or 3 small houses. The area in my city must be 200 meters wide. Im not expecting the problem to get fixed so your best bet is to move the effected houses from the area and place a garden or statue there so you dont accidentaly place more houses there at a later date.
Hmm by 200 meters I mean the effected houses are at least 200m away from each other Im not realy sure if houses placed inbetween them would also have the same problem but I guess eventually I will find out.
i've lost xp this way too, 3 out of the 4 incidents unqualified me for a skill while i crossed a server boundary to get training. the CSRs wouldn't reimburse xp, and by the time they actually read my (somehow mysteriously disappeared 3 times) ticket(s), i already mastered tailor and just got materials back. i remember breaking down crying the last time it happened after i unqualified for master tailor
... *ahem*, enough of the personal rant, that was ages ago
Perhaps a few saw this thread and didn't reply, as it wasn't relevant, but for those curious, or for those that may suffer this problem in the future, I did get some additionalinformation. A CSR confirmed the location of a server boundary running east/west, right through the center of my little town. The southwest Pilon(or Pillar)that marks city hall is almost exactly at the center of the boundary.
This explains why nearly every resident in town was suffering this problem. It's hard to live in the city, and not pass across the middle! And for a small city to declare the middle 200m of the city as a no-build zone...well, that's darned near impossible. We absolutely must move.
A different CSR then reported that the new location we are considering is server boundary free.
That's great news. We didn't get a new city hall, but at least we got the 2 critical pieces of information we wanted.
Awesome news Manipulative!!
I looked around for info and found none whatsoever, so that the CSR's gave you what they did is really cool. Good luck in your new location, and just out of curiosity could you give the planet and waypoint of the place the CSR told you the server boundary was... I'm curious as to whether it might be possible to map those as they are likely evenly spaced square blocks of the map.
Thank you Manipulative, and Have fun!
On Shadowfire, planet Tatooine, there is a server boundary running east/west at 1653, 1280. The 1280, being the importiant axis, as this defines the relation north/south to a boundary running east/west.
1280...that's not a very surprising number, now that we think about it. (128 is 2 to the 7th, so 1280 is 2 to the 7th times 10). I would be leary, thus of locations at multiples of 1280.
What scares me the most, regarding this issue, is that they recently added servers to Dantooine. Imagine that for 6 months you've lived server boundary free. Then they add servers and suddenly you are smack dab over a boundary....oh that would be soooooo frustrating...
Ewoch-
Your city's location is probably darned near where we moved from. Mos Muerte, the first city of Shadowfire, was located between Eisley and AH. The server boundary plagued us from player city launch until we all moved away about a month ago. Some of the residents moved to Naboo, where guess what? Their new city has a boundary, right in the middle. The rest of us relocated on Tat. Where, as I've mentioned, we have a boundary. Could the original residents of Mos Muerte be any more plagued than this? I hope not.
Anyway, having lived with the problem since launch, I can assure you, that my description of the problem as an "inconvenience" was being kind to the extreme. How it is that some of my friends still play the game today, with the screaming they have done over this problem, I do not know. I'mpretty sure that Logitech has sold at least one extra keyboard or mouse over this problem. I can only say that our friendship has been stronger than the bugs.
I have a few houses south of anchorhead where i've lost
several items (including a rebel banner and an akuan ring).
I'd like to know if it's because i'm on a boundary and if
so I'll move.
