--Hail all. I'm the "mayor designate" who wasn't quite ready when our city was placed and I havetwo relatedquestions.

1) Is it possible to have "custom signposts" that say what you want them to say? For example, street signs, memorial signs at parks, direction signposts....

If it is not possible I would like to suggest it.

2) Is there something like a "public message board" for anyone to read? (I know you can mass email to "citizens" but I mean something even visitors can read.

Sorry for the newbie nature of these questions.

No public message board, but if you have your architect in your own city, s/he can rename any object to whatever you choose. So for example, you can place a (grossly expensive to maintain) lightpost at a streetcorner and it will say "Lightsaber Way" or whatever when your cursor hovers over it. We have done this with statues in our city so that they read with memorial messages.

The streelights as streetsigns works well...you just have to make sure you don't hit your decoration cap...heh. I think I maxxed ours out in about an hour when I first got customization 1. And I've been pushing the max ever since.

Many thanks to both of you. Exactly the information I needed! We had a member of our guild die in the twin towers (we were in UO back then). After an anguishing discussion we decided not to name the city after him but had hoped there would be someway to have a "Rockbottom Memorial" something for him.

We are having a memorial garden ourselves . . . I've known two game - people who have passed away since joining the forums 3 years ago. Right now we have a dedicated statue to one of our town Founders who left the game in our City Hall.

One thing to make sure of is that you pick the style of statue/lightpost/fountain before you rename it.

If you rename then select the style, you have to name it again. Changing style clears/resets the name field.

I guess this is sorta related. I think they need to add something to Master Merchant so that you get an actual skill when you achieve it. My idea was to give Master Merchants the ability to produce Bill Boards. (limit them to one billboard per vendor, so that would be a grand total of 6 Billboards). The billboards could be made to be memorial plackards or just sime billboards advertising a city. Just a thought.

I use a vendor in city hall named "City Clerk" to post messages and notices. I sell a backpack (can still color those) on the vendor and in comments place the public messages and notices.

Not the best, but it works for now.
