Thread: /citywarn should go

I use to be a firm believer in /citywarn and was not happy when I heard it was going to be removed until today.

I ran into a city on Talus chasing a bounty in covert state. A guy called Tyrbl ran up to me after I reached the first bounty location inside the city and I said 'Hi'. No reply so I rode off towards the next bounty update location which was just outside of this player town. On my way out I got the message you have just been city warned and I hought...nice..he never even said a word to me and now he has banned me.

So anyway I stopped outside of town at about 60 metres from my mark just after the message came up saying you are now attackable. At which point this guy Tyrbl comes running up to me while I am measuring up my mark and starts shooting me until I am dead. I have already received the message you are leaving blah blah town; whatever it was called... and he kills me for no good reason at all.

It was then that it struck me....anyone in a militia can do this and thereis currently no mechanism to prevent it. I was upset that the truth of this had been shoved in my face after having campaigned in favour of keeping /citywarn. The fact is that it can be and is used to grief players who want no part of PvP or who dont at the time anyway. EIther way if you are covert you shouldnt be open to this.

My opinion is that /citywarn should be removed and I am now glad that it is being removed and I hope that soon a more useable and fair alternative is developed that allows militia to have some bite but at the same time prevents this kind of griefing.

So everyone should pay for the actions of a few punk griefers?

The Griefer goes free while everyone else is left to suffer the consequences?

How about the CSR's get off their lazy asses and ban the SOB from the game?

Isn't that a more common sense solution?

Or, alternately, up the timer from 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

There are other alternatives than the knee jerk reaction of nerfing the game. Nerfs are the lazy way of doing things.

It really sucks that some idiot griefed you like this. What a stupid thing to do.

On the other hand (and I am speaking as a 'responsible' militia member), removing the /citywarn command makes the militia useless now... oh - wait, we can grant zoning rights... yippeeeee! lol

I hope they comeo out with a solution soon.

BTW - this never came up on TC?? What is being tested on TC?? You mean to tell me that no one on TC was going around and /citywarn-ing folks for the fun of it??

/sigh

I think citywarn/ban is needed. For situations like this, the mayor of the city has to be notified. That individual can easy be removed from militia. If it's the mayor's veiw point to attack everyone that enters the city, then that city will have short comings.

One of the big differences is that the command on TC had a 2 minute timer. For some insane reason they failed to bring it over from TC with the same time constraints being used there.

Yes. Griefing mechanics should be removed immediately until a new mechanic can be made. dont worry your precious militia will be able to do something to "protect" your city when they figure out a fair technique to do so.

Why do you have to have the ability to kill whoever is in your city? If they are griefing or something serious you are suppose to /report them...so why do you feel you need to be the Galaxies Police now? Ah well this thing has been hashed out a billion times and no one is going to change their mind. Fact of the matter is that it is soon to be gone and something new will replace it next publish probably...

Exactly. The devs have deemed this type of game-stopping behavior to be more harmful than the roleplay griefing that /citywarn prevented. By saying "it's just a few people" is an invalid argument. That's like saying:

"Mr. President, Mr. President! New York City police are randomly shooting innocent tourists!"
"Well, it's only a few people, who cares?"

The devs are protecting the rights of all players in the short term... with /citywarn coming back improved in the long term.

The real issue here is that /report does not work. If it did, people would behave more rather than laughing at you when you tell them you are going to /report. If the CSRs did do more about these situations, then /citywarn wouldn't be needed. It would also not be abused. That isn't what we have though. In a week you can do your BH missions without having to worry about being griefed in this manner. Though you do have to worry about being griefed in your own town, should something happen. You both win and lose.

Don't you think cities, where these types of actions happen will survive. Won't this problem work it's self out?

The cops shooting civils would not fly in Real Life. The same, I think would happen here. People will wise up to the cities that allow this and avoid them. That could only hurt the city.

Maybe jack up the cost to maintain a militia?

How about asking for your missions to not spawn in in player cities?

Sorry, your kindergarten way of dealing with things is not the way you treat your customer base.

The minority that griefs other players should be immediately and forever removed from the game.

No other option is acceptable.

Those cities will survive, because the players doing this WANT a closed city all to themselves that everyone avoids...they dont want trade, they dont want customers they want the latest and greatest cool thing from SWG and they want it all to themselves. I doubt anyone in some of these griefer cities gives a care about getting outside people to stop by.

I as well wanted /citywarn to stay but have seen ity taken to far. I was holding a city/guild meeting this weekend that turned into a brawl with city warn. Now instead of stripping my Malitla of their title i left it bcs soe is going to take it away anyways. I have seen it use to abuse and I have seen it used to protect the city. I feel that as it stands right now It is more harmful. I do feel there is a need to allow players to police their cities. Also mayors need a way to have greater control over zoning. In a freinds city he granted zoning rights to a player to place a small home. This player lied and placed a large. They mayor asked him to redeed it and place the small home. To wich the offensive player laughed and walked away. At this point there is nothin a mayor can do about this.
