Me and some friends have decided to start our city. At the time, didn't think much past would have to work out taxes, and plan the city layout. More I ready, I'm starting to realize I bit off a little more than I thought. Any advise to a new politician just now getting his feet wet? We picked a beautiful spot on Rori, good land, nice view of some lakes. Located reasonably close to a faction dungeon, hoping that will help boost taxe revenue from the shuttleport. Goal is to turn it into a strong commerce center. Are we in over our heads keeping this place afloat past the first month? Or are the money pains to be expected later as the city grows?

if you plan on having a shuttleport, make sure you'll have enough citizens to do so when your city can advance

it might be a bit rough at the beginning, since without the shuttleport you might not get a lot of traffic, thus less income. if you have crafters in the city you can try charging sales tax, and they'll need to do heavy advertisement (think those merchant bots).

get together with your friends and raise the money needed for the first few weeks, since taxes probably won't cover it. have them understand that you are all building the city together, and they'll have to help with keeping the treasury afloat.

tweak taxes as you go if you decide not to rely on donations. the bigger the city is the more money it'll take, and if you need to trim down you can always hold off on placing decorations.

best of luck with your new city if you have any more questions, feel free to come back and ask

Yeah, I'd have to say Pappi is right here... get a couple million credits in the treasury right off, so you'll have less to worry about as things proceed, and do try to keep tabs on the other cities on the planet. Many cities lapse into stagnation due in part to their isolation from the other groups around them. Remember, these contact with these groups is essential to extended communication and advertising of events. Let your people know about theirs and they'll inform their people about yours.

Your primary job ongoing will be keeping the community in contact, which can be difficult as the city develops, but is essential to the health of any PA or city. If your city is a single PA endeavor this will be slightly easier than if this is otherwise, but this isn't to suggest one method is better than another. Multi-PA cities provide a lot of benefits all their own....

Good luck to you. At any rate don't lose faith that you can be successful. Being the mayor is a tall task, but if someone's done it you can as well. And it is a rewarding position.
