Why are we as mayors required to spend skill points on a profession that is not profitable to us ? True we could tax our citizens to death andtake moneyfrom the treasury , but I know in my case my citizens arn't big on taxes and the only tax i use is sales and garage fee. In every other profession in this game you can make money with your skills , I dont see where the mayors should punished on using skill points to do a job that they love , you would have to love it since it doesn't pay
.. I'm not saying drop the skill tree , yes we should still have to gain votes to advance in the skill tree , just I think we shouldnt have to use skill points , we should be left with those to use to gain other skills we can turn into profit... Ok call me stupid but let me know what you think.........

you can have oher profession for your money needs, mayor isn't taking the whole skill points...
I guess that a mayor should only be focused on his city (and treasury) and not onhis own pocket... mayorhis not meant to her moneyhere, but it's true taht he should receive aa wage, or a % of donation to the city hall... which could motivete him in finding donators

I think there is already a topic on this forum talking about the idea of changing the skill point requirements. As to why you are expected to expend points that one is easy. For the same reason you are expected to use up 7-9 lots for a PA hall to have one. It is a mechanic to make doing so a challenge. To make you have to sacrifice something in order to achieve something you want. There is obviously room for debate that the challenge level is too high for the payout. There is room for discussion about the numbers should be tweaked. But I think aruging for "free" skills to run a city runs counter to the idea that cities are desired by a large group of people. Getting one should be an achievement as should keeping one. Making it a LOT easier will blunt that achievement in my opinion.

I like the explanations in the last 2 postsand that it certainlydoes make for more of achallenge. We can still master 2 other professions.Being mayordoes need committment, continuation andstability ...just another way to help do that...lol
I'm a mayor and Master Arch and Art -will I everhave a chance to become a jedi ?
As for taxes, even after applying 2000k a week, 150 Shuttle and 20% garage,it only cover about one-half of the weekly city treasury bills.... We were tax-free for a long time. Few donations were coming in and I figured rather than taking 100% of it myself, I may as well apply some tax to offset it, give citizens some responsibilityand alsonot leave a new mayor in a bad position (relyingsolely on donations)should I leave.
It would worrycitizens a little to seea mayor(s) withdraw50k (max per week)from the city treasury as most (if not all) mayors have put millions into their city - I doubt they would even touch the treasury money.

The problem is that the skill cost doesn't cover.. also it doesn't allow a "true democracy" really.. not anyone can run for mayor (even if the person would make a good mayor.. just not enough skill points) the true test of a mayor is people skill...
Thus most city have the "sacraficial goat" mayor who is either 2nd account or master it.. place everything and drop to novice (or all of it) and run a city that way.. or run with minimal skill for militia and trainers.....
Alternative income must be considered..... our cost is around 400k.. income is around 200k.. so that means we run on donation.... if we can get a small percentage like faction base terminals for our mission terminals... I'm more than happen to sacrifice my skill points for it.... (even keeping it to get that benefits)
Ooooo... how about this.. if we keep our master politician.. we get 1% cut from our mission terminals and trainers to our city treasury......

Hm...? I don't think a mayor should complain. That's not a very good mayor now, is it?

you could try getting your citizens together to donate a 'salary' to you, or, as most mayors tend to be pretty social folks, you could pick up doc. good money in it, and a great way to meet people. I'm just tossing out ideas. I'm a retired weaponsmith, i really haven't had to think about money much. I've been fortunate as mayor to have the majority of my population active all the time, so donations more than cover the city costs, and the kitty grows a little each week. At the moment, i know player cities are the main money sink, but it'd be nice if there were a way to get cities to be more self sufficent with mission term kickbacks, trainer payments, and lower maintenance. Maybe even incorporate a bit of the way merchant works into the skill trees for city maintenance, with xx% discount in each box. More events like the scavanger hunt would be fun, too
(sorry, very off topic there)
