Thread: Sales tax changed but not showing up in Vendors?

Hey Gentle Mayors,
Have you recently changed your city's sales tax? I did last night from 10% to 5%. BUT....none of the prices on the vendors in Aurora have changed. And new items posted to the vendors are still getting a 10% tax added to them.
Have any of you noticed this issue?

Does sales tax even work for you?
I had to turn it off, since it didn't do the city treasury nearly any good, at least not in any way as much as went from the sales into nirvana as it seams

What you are seeing is correct. Tax is added to items when they are placed on vendors and deposited into the city fund when the item is sold. Any new items added to vendor now will have the new tax rate.

There in lies the rub. The new tax isnt being applied correctly.
Old Sales tax = 10%
New Sales tax = 5%
Tax being added to all old vendor items = 10%
Tax being added to all NEW vendor items = 10% ----this should be 5%. Odd odd odd 
I am hopeful that the city maintenance cycle will clear up the farbled sales tax or maybe, just maye the daily server reboot will help.

when you change sales tax.. the current prices don't change until tomorrow... (I was changing from 5 to 10%) and didn't see any changes to my 100s of items until the next day...
but when you add new items.. it will reflect the new taxes

All my vendors reported that the taxes on their inventories are now at the correct level. I suppose it took a server reset to jump start the sales tax machinery. As far as the city getting the money from the tax, I can definatly say that we do. I dont know how much. I figure I will remove all taxes one week except for Sales tax and see how much we make. That should give me a good idea.

I've confirmed repeatedly Sales tax works NOT!. The simple test - a full day after imposing the tax - several hours after the update....
1. Mayor checks the Treasury Balance
2. Vendor checks Cash and Bank Balance
3.Customer checks Cash and Bank Balance
4.Customer completes purchase
5.Customer verifies that Purchase (including sales tax) reduced Bank balance correctly.
6.Customer verifies Confirming email received
7. Vendor verifies confirming email received.
8. Vendor notes bank balance shows full amountCustomer paid INCLUDING SALES TAX
9. Mayor confirms Treasury balance unchanged.
We tried this with a 100K purchase with a 2% tax where Customer, vendor, and Mayor (just to be sure) completed NO OTHER transactions through the next day's update.
In EVERY case - the vendor simply got the sales tax. We've tested this after Every Publish (though not Since Publish 9 - we will this weekend), and once or twice at the request of some citizens who would prefer a Sales tax to a property tax.

I apprecieate the testing and reporting on the sales tax.
I will test it as well and see what happens. I KNOW I have hda monies added to the treasury when I put a sales tax in place. Could it work only some of the time? I dont know...but will check it out.

Sales tax is a weird thing... Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...
We've done many, many tests identical to the one Tanooshmas mentions.
Depending on the day of the week, what publish is current, the phase of the moon, and the current temperature outside the server room (in Fahrenheit), we've gotten all of the following results:
A) The sales tax correctly goes into the City Treasury.
B) The sales tax goes to the owner of the vendor.
C) The sales tax vanishes into thin air... going to neither the merchant not the city.. yet the buyer still was changed the amount.
Hopefully this will be fixed some day, but I'm not holding my breath.
