Thread: Taxation without Representation

I have not directly tested this myself however from what I am reading in my galaxy forum some disgruntled players there seems to be a bug with player cities and I wonder if any of you have encountered it.

To duplicate the bug the following criteria have to be met.
A building in the city radius of a newly placed city
The owner of the building has not declared residency or is a citizen
The owner of the building gets banned from the city prior to declaring.

The problem:
The owner of the building cannot become a citizen by declaring
The owner of the building still is subject to TAX placed by the city.

Our galaxy has one faction attempting to take over the land of the other faction (and neutral players) by razing taxes to force them out. I am not too worried about the political ramifications of that (not picking a side), however I feel to be taxed without any representation (they cannot vote if they are not a citizen) is just not the way a player city should be.

If this is indeed the actual way it is (Can anyone confirm this?), could we suggest to the powers-that-be to remove the tax from non-citizen houses, or automatically allow existing structures in a player city to have the ability to become a citizen (banned or not).

If an existinghouse is absorbed by a city, the owner SHOULD be able to declare their residence there and become a citizen of the city. I've seen this working as expected many times.

I've heard of some weirdness where the player needs to logout and log back in, and/or exit their house and re-enter it... So try that.

What happens when they "declare residency" via their house maintenance terminal? Does it not let them? Does their residency info update?

Oh, and it is correct that structures within the city border WILL be taxed... regardless of whether or not the owner is a citizen.. This includes houses and harvesters.... Anybody whose house is being taxed should be able to declare residency in their house and then become a citizen. If that's not happening, it's a big. Open a CSR ticket.

I am not directly involved with the city or its citizens.
From what I read they say they cannot declare residency on a pre existing house in this new city so they cannot vote. The tempers are high and a lot of them have never been in a city so I suspect they are confused, but I cannot get a straight answer from anyone of them, the reason I bring it up here is because there is a lot of them complaining about it, so I can only assume the above is what is happing. (I will PM some of them and have them post over here for comment)

I guess when I get ingame I can attempt to do it in my own city and see. Lately I have found a lot of oddities, like I was Mayor in one city, I was leaving so I went to another city and declared residency there. So somehow I was Mayor in one, and a citizen in the other, maybe its just our server lol.

We have had a simmilar problem. Where residents that no longer live in the city, and do not have a house in the city, still are listed as a resident, and getting charged tax.

This makes electing a new mayor very hard. I have to track down citizens that live on other towns/planets to come back and vote.

The only way around this (I believe) is to have them revote their citizenship from the city terminal.

I haven't tried this yet, but I will tonight when I get home from work.

And the ghost town issue, and the mayor retire issue, and the militia zoning issue (have be granted from another militia, not sure if this is working correctly or not)

This is what I had to do once they voted me out as Mayor so I would not get taxed from both citys.
