Why is there no option to monitor your budget? You can see what the maintenance is and you can see your tax rates but you can't see how much money your going to receive or if you're even receiving it at all. I don't know if citizen tax is working completely, I just assume it is. Property tax seems to work but I have a 30% tax rate and it barely even scratches the city expenses. Not too much I can't see how much money I've made from the other taxes either. It's as if they expect you to physicaly keep your own budget and monitor every single house and vendor to just guess how much money you'll bring.
Why does it seem that the maintenaces for everything is somewhat ridiculous? My city is a level 4 city but as it stands right now, it costs us over half a million week to maintain the city. Reasonable taxes don't even cover half this expense.
Why can't I hire someone to do my decorations for city buildings?
Why do street lights count as decorations? It's a shame that I can't have lights on every street because of some silly decoration cap. (Not to mention that the decorations cap doesn't allow me to properly light the city at night.)
Whyis there only a small choice of statues and fountains to choose from? Half of the statues I wouldn't even dare place in the city. (What's the deal with the head statue?)
Why do gardens have to be on platforms with steps? It seems that some of the simplest gardens would look better if they just rested on the ground.
Where are the benches that my citizens can actually sit on?
And finaly...
WHY IS THERE GRASS GROWING THROUGH MY SHUTTLEPORT AND BANK TERMINAL!?!?

All good questions! Though I seriously doubt we will see any resolution to most of if not all of them.
The best way I have found to deal with taxes is:
A- do a manual accounting of the city's expensese. that means physically counting all the lamps, gardens, civic structures, trainers, terminals and decorations.
B- look at the current maintenance cost for your city and comparing it against your manual accounting.
C- yelling at the csrs to come fix the discrepancies.
D- Work hard to track your income by trying to use one tax every week and seeing just how much you make per week. That is about the only way I can tell how much the taxes each bring in. Then I can more effectively balance the taxes in my city. I used to think that a good sales tax, garage tax and shuttle tax would suffice, but I now reaslize that I neeed a balanced tax policy for each category and keep shifting it to support the city's needs as people, structures and vendors come and go in the city.
Cheers!

I used to pull my hair out over the damn tax system for player cities....
Then i turned off all the taxes and expalinedto my citizensthat the tax sytem is borked.
I told them that if they wanted the city to survive that they should just donate....
Some thought I was crazy......
11 million in the treasury now!

Very nice points Justuss71.
I think - we [the players] are aware of these and a few other Play City problems. Now, we must ask WHY we aren't being heard or their not doing anthing about them
Maybe, just stop with content and this whole - everybody wannabe Jedi thing and fix some things.
Why, the Devs can't routinelly fix some of these things or even provide supporst as to why not - rather then leaving it and inoring our pleas - I dunno......

That is a VERY interesting solution.
Donate or the city will go POOF!
No taxes means that I am transfering the burden of support for the city on the citizens. They have to take responsibility for the city or risk losing it. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
That sounds a bit draconian, but ultimately might be a VERY good way to solve the problem.

We shouldn't have to play the game different because the developers were flawed in their creation of player cities and their associated programming.

What he said. Plus the inaility to personalize the city by having residents name streets.
A fine person in my city wanted to have street signs, great idea I thought. The only vehilce I could think of to carry that forward was streetlights, naming them inidvidually with the street names, but that would put you in to jeopardy with thdecoration cap for a level 4 city.
For a player cities to really take-off and I mean really take-off, people have to be able to personalize them to a greter degree then is possible currently.
