In my city the incombent mayor is planning to leave the game at the end of the week. I have agreed to take the job of mayor. In our group we do the voting outside of the game. Anyway all the active players have changed their votes, but majoraty of the casual players have not. The problem is that leaves the incumbent with majoraty. If he disables his account now, would that cancle his votes or leave them locked on him? We do not want a dead toon voted in...

Here's how I see it:

1) He cancels his subscription before the city update/election: from everything I have heard, your city will suffer, you may lose your city status and have to re-start as an outpost.

2) He cancels his subscription after the city update/election: he will get any default votes, that is votes from any and all citizens who have not gone to the terminal to change their selection to the alternative mayor candidate.

What you need is for him to keep his subscription going until after this week's city update, and you need to tell your casual players how important it is to get on sometime this week and make a vote choice for you at the terminal. If 50%+ of your citizens fail to vote at all, your current mayor will be re elected.

Despite the fact that we've made resignation from office one of our top-five issues in order to make succession less difficult, it remains a fact that you need an active populous to effectively run a city. As it is right now, a city made up of players who rarely log in or attend to their civic duties is going to be handicapped.

Unless he deletes his character the city will not suffer catastrophic losses. The one key is that the current mayor needs to send an email to 'citizens' letting people know to change their votes. By doing this right after an election there is the best chance to get more than one half of the people to actually vote.

What happens if he is deleting character but we come 5 votes shy of beating the incumbent (51-47 votes)? Just curious. We in trouble and city goes poof?

One thingSWG could of done to help in problems like this is to add one little content, as minor as it is..

A VICE MAYOR position.. This person has to have novice polititian skill and is "appointed" by the Mayor.. Given some powers of helping run the city, but not complete, and can be hired or replace in a moments notice just like adding someone to the admin list.. If something happens to the Mayor, the vice mayor is coded to take over immediately as Mayor.. City stays safe unless both quit

from everything I read on the boards - yes. He really shouldn't delete his char until the new mayor is elected. See if you can find some new citizens, or something.

Well in the end it came out alright. I came out 3 votes ahead right before the update. As I understand it the last mayor deleted his account like 5 minutes after the update mails where sent out. Moral of this story, be sure you know who you have elected. Make sure they are not going to become board with the game and leave you with less then a week to get ready.
