My house has recently come under the borders of a Player city. Im not a member of this city but I would like to place factories by my house. I contacted the mayor when I found out I would need zoning rights to build next to my home. He responded that Id have to join and then they could be placed. But he logged out before I had a chance to ask about placement.

So, If im granted zoning rights can I place the factories my self or does the mayor need to place them? If I can place them, can I change them out when I need to? Or do I need to get zoning rights each time?

I don't think you have to join the city to be granted zoning rights. He probably just wants another citizen. Zoning rights can only be granted for 24 hours at a time. You can remove your buildings anytime, but cannot place anything after your 24 hours has run out, unless you find the mayor or one of the militia to grant you rights.

Of course if the city just expanded to include your house, you're probably not that far from the city limits where you are not required to have zoning rights to place buildings. If you place outside the city and the city expands again, *bam* your factories are now within city borders and you're still an independant. Either that or agree and become a citizen, get zoning rights, place your factories then declare another house as your residence outside the city limits (thereby nullifying your citizenship in the city). The second option would be considered pretty low though so I don't suggest you do that unless you don't mind a griefer tag attached to your name. I guess it depends on how far you want to go to remain an independant.

You actually don't have to redeclare in another house to revoke your citizenship. A recent patch added the Revoke Citizenship command at the City Hall Terminal. Head to City Hall, hit that and you're all done.

I stand corrected. I was not aware of that, thank you.

Still, I would have to warn against proceeding with this idea. I know if you did that in the city in which I am currently mayor there would be a number of people, including myself, that would not look favorably on your character after that point. I was merely presenting options, some good, some not so good (at least in my mind).

Just my 2 credits

My house is about 200m for the city limits of Anchorhead. The mayor placed his city hall a few hundred meters from my place. So His city pretty much butts up against Anchorhead. Given the terrain the closest I can place my factories outside of the city limits is about 500-600m from my house(Houses rocky terain etc) Which its doable but an inconvinence.

So I figure ok Ill join his city and see where it goes ,even thou from what ive read I didnt need to. So I send him an email informing him I joined and that I play odd hours and that neither him or anyone listed as miltia are on when I am.

So that leads my to another question. Can a mayor grant zoning rights toa person that isnt online?

And why is that? His house wasenvelopedby a city. He was there first. And now if he doesn't join your city, you're not going to "look favorably on his character". What is this, the Mafia? Gimme a break.

You can become a member of the city by simply going tothe terminal in your house and selecting "Declare Residence". Mind you, you will have to pay any taxes the Mayor has mandated there.

No they can not grant you zoning rights while you are offline. In fact you have to be within a few meters of the mayor for him to /grantzoningrights for you successfully.

So you feel it would be alright to lie to the mayor, get zoning rights place his factories/harvies/whatever then abandon the city? I have no problem with people not wanting to be citizens, but if you want to place buildings within city limits you're going to have to live by our rules which means becoming a citizen.

Can you think of one city in real life that doesn't have it's citizens following some kind of municipal law above and beyond the usual federal law? I can't.

No, I'm saying have a little respect for the folks who were there before you.

In what way are we not respecting the folks who were there before? Are they forced to join the city? No. Do they pay taxes to support the civic structures that they more than likely use? No. Sure they don't get to vote but if they found this an important point then they would join the city. As a city we have decided that we will have industrial sections for factories, and harvesters are not allowed within city limits. Upon expanding if harvesters falls within city limits then they can remain but no new harvesters can be placed.

Out of curiosity do you feel that native North American Indians have been, and continue to be, treated fairly? Neither do I.

FYI there was nobody near the city that we started, I am merely giving my opinion as if there had been.
