Thread: Suggestion for a new city facility...

It was suggested that I post this here, so please... read on!

I have run across a situation where I need to deliver something (resources, uniforms, weapons, etc.) but I'm not on at the same time they are.

So the only option is to place that person on my house's admin and tell them to come and get it from there.

If I know / trust the person, fine. But if not? I'm opening my stuff up to be pilfered.

Here's my suggestion for a new city facility:

A post office.

You can go to the post office, drop an item there with a "To" entry, and then you pay a fee (postage) and the person can pick it up when they log on.

It was pointed out to me that that the terminal / facility needed to be architect-craftable.

Anywho, just a suggestion. Any opinions?

I love the idea.... you can even ship to other post office

At least this way people won't take other people's stuff (even via vendors and packs)

Oh wait this isn't a petition well This sounds cool... It would be neat if it was a shuttle based system... the Items would be shipped every 10 minutes or so... Special Inter-plantery post offices would take the things to other planets and the regular ones would be smaller about twice the size of a shuttle port and you would give the item to a npc and type the name it should go to and then only that person could pick it up.. and you can add a fee too...

Oops I let my mind and fingers go out of control didn't mean to totally add to it

Figured out another fun new facility with a citizen of mine who helps me harvesting power, i'll make a topic for it.

yeh i agree, culd work as some sort of bank transfer, a little like the safety deposit,. u just type the name of the account holder into the pop up window at bank terminal, and it get transfered to wherever their home bank is, In fact interplanetary banking should be possible, I can already empty my terminal at different places on my home planet, so why not interplantarily? that oulw mean trade missions wuold be much smoother, perhaps something for the interplanetary dudes to deal with when Space layer comes out, Courier company here we come.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, How can we do this and not make another EQ? We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen."

I love this idea.

I would suggest this facility to be exclusive to player cities, that would help them a little more against static cities in their "social hub" role, since it would attract people in need of this kind of service.

I love this idea, so much so that I'm not going to let this one die. I'm submitting in and out-of-game mails for this, including pm's on the forums, just so we get a dev to acknowledge the idea.

This is one of the best ideas i've heard of for SWG in general, not just for city ideas.

I love the idea - now if we could only collect the postage as a form of tax to help us pay for the cities hehe.

Aw, shucks... yer just saying that. /grin

I think it's a great idea too. And I agree with the concept of keeping it in player cities.

Someone has asked me about this affecting vendors, meaning that it would lessen the importance of merchants xp. Any ideas? I thought that perhaps it could be similar to medical centers and cantinas ==> only master doctors and entertainers can place them. Perhaps only people with a certain type of artisan professions (those with the merchant skill trees) could place them.

Just a thought. (As well as an attempt to keep this up on top of the boards. I'd love to see this idea implemented.)

This is an awesome idea!!! As far as it effecting vendors, I don't think so, if anything it gives vendors a betteroption to safely sell custom made stuff. If I want to buy clothes I'm still gonna search the galaxy for clothes vendors.... but if I want to buy custom made clothes, I can order it from thetailor and have them mailed to the post office box of the city i reside in Or as a non-merchant I would be able to go shopping at various vendors and mail gifts to my friends.

Great Idea and I hope the Dev's can move on this idea!!
