Thread: Idea on maps for LARGE cities

I read with interest on people getting lost in cities.

How about this?

The politician is able to craft a vendor and setup communication boxes like when you talk to an NPC.

you "converse"

the npc vender we create, and name, says something like

Hi, Welcome to (your city name here), What canI help you with?

a menu of shops pops up.

the player can select from the menu of type of shop he wants.

the npc automatically does that "FIND" thing i have used in cities and a waypoint pops up with a yellow line leading from that vendor to the shop or merchant the player was seeking.

All we would need is the ability to add dialog to what the vendor says.

make that part of having to be part businessman with the vocal training you do on vendors anyhow.

your thoughts?

Smuggler/Politician - both deal with the same amount of tact, lying, backstabbing, and theiving.

all i need now is an intern,

I persoanlly think this is a great idea. Unfortunately, with the frequency with which vendors open and close, I think it may be a nightmare to try and code a tracking system for this. Best suggestion I can offer is to use ad barking to accomplish this yourself.

This would be a huge help for our town

And it would save me having to maintain merchant skills just to be able to get information to people in the city.

codes already in place, everything i mentioned is in the game, just a matter of calling the right procedure's and a little extra code to make it doable in the first place.

nothing new at all. or so miniscule it wouldnt take a full day for any decent programmer.

Put all your vendors in vednor tent close to city hall or the shuttle port and they will be easy to find.

wow... 200 plus?

I like the idea of the Information terminal.. even to direct visitors to our different neighborhoods (we have 4 guilds represented in town, and they've kind of gravitated toward their individual "pa hall sectors") .. Our commercial district is busy.. but I still get "Where's the Clone Center" when people are standing right in front of it...

..and not all of us have Merchant "barker" ability.. I suppose I could put a droid on "track" but that wouldn't help if I either have to leave the area or log..

The 200 vendor problem would be easy enough to fix.. the mayor needs to be the one to put vendors on the "map". That way, say someone has 30 vendors in their shop, just list them once as "Joe-theplayer's Mall" and throw some simple coordinates in there. Yes no?

just read up on the new droid patch on test. looks like they have implemented the ad barking for the vendors or a droid so this idea is now functional......

for those of you with an imagination,

check it out on the test center, should be awesome for large cities with lots of vendors.

I think these are good ideas. I would personally like to see some form of a city map integrated into the planetary map. Like you could step into the planetary map (for those of you familiar with Avid), and see a city map that is more detailed than the overhead map. Then the vendors and waypointslisted on the side would only show those for the city.

i haven't personally tried one of those droids (i don't have merchant, let along ad4), but i'm somewhat pessimistic about them atm currently there's no way to /addignore one of these droids, and they send out a message every 30s (for now), so they become annoying very quickly

true, that might be an issue, maybe if they kicked it up to a full minute, or 2 maybe.

thats not long to wait to hear directions for a cit.
