Our current mayor is taking a hiatus, and in his place, we want to put a new character as mayor, we've been trying to get everyone to vote, and not enough people are coming online to vote, mostly due to RL business, is there an easier way to give the mayor spot to a new person than getting everyone to vote for the new mayor?

This seems to be a large issue that always comes up in these threads..
I can only hope that they are looking into changing this with the upcoming mini-patchs and full publish.

You want some way that's easier than giving every citizen his fair say?!
Does that seem right to you?

er...
I guess you didn't really read the first post.
They want to replace the first mayor, but can't get the votes because there's not enough ACTIVE citizens.
AND! The Mayor is not being forcefully replaced... if he's not around to be mayor, what good is he? They're looking to replace in absence. =P

What does that change? Every citizen deserves a vote. Inactive players I understand too, but if more than 50% of your citizens are inactive too, what the heck is it you're trying to save? You'd be better oof stating a new city with the active players you've got.
When it gomes down to it, the original poster's complaint isn't that it can't be done, it's that it isn't as easy as he wants it to be. And my original response was that it shouldn't be - for good reason.
