How about:

For every week you win an election you gain a .5 % decrease in the cost of running a city. So afrer a full year you would have a 25% ( yeah 26% i know )decrease in cities cost. If you stuck with the profession and the game for 4 full years it would cost nothing to run your city. You have to be at Master Politician and have the skill and be reelected for the timer to start.

I think if your loyal enough to stick with it for 4 years then its a just reward.

Even just the first years total of 25% would be a great benefit to a city for placing gardens and lights and so on.

Not sure if 5% is the right reduction, but something like this would be nice. Maybe just for decorative items?
Either way it gives campaigning mayors something to promise in the future.

The big turn-off to this idea however, is that there wouldn't be a reason to elect new mayors at this point - why would you want to elect someone who probably has less skills than the current mayor and who would end up costing your city more? There would have to be an equally as tempting reward for new mayors (which then brings up the problem of what if you just get two mayors and keep switching them to get this 'new mayor reward'... )

It is hard enough for new mayors (without politician skills) as it is. How about giving MasterPoliticians a skill for themselves, rather than for the city - seems to me like the entire Politician tree is of no personal use to the owner - just to the city he's mayor of. How about the ability to place a nice statue of himself for his city, or the ability to reason with enemy NPCs on a diplomatic level hence avoiding being attacked that sort of thing. Just my thought for the day...

Hmm good points, how about that 5% cash be given to the mayor as a salary?

It would then be up to him/her to decide wether to put the cash back into the city to reduce taxes or pay for new garndens/lights or to pocket it himself.

Do we even get anything now for the 6 skill points it costs?

we could combine the ideas of saving money on city maint and getting money for the mayor and just give mastor politicians the ability to steal from the city. but really, politicians really do need to get something out of the class - most of the ones i know are on accounts that are basically paid for by a group of people who started the towns simply because no one wants to waste all those SP.

heh, maybe I'm just being stubborn, but I'm still eying the "scientific society" thing the advance guide mentioned.... I know plenty of my citizens would LOVE tohelp pay for the cost to support that

Amen, Pappi. I just made master Politician on tuesday and am pretty upset that there is nothing but a badge and a title for it. I mean, I worked darn hard to get here. I didn't have a city with 100+ citizens in it. Our city started as a guild city. Now it has grown to a neutral city with some not in the guild, but we are still only 43 strong. The first thing I heard apon making master was" so what new stuff can we expect?" to which I had to say nothing.

I would love to have the ability to lower the city maintenance, but I would also like to turn over the city to someone else sometime. If I am lowering the cost of the city, then I would never be voted out. So this idea can't happen.

I would also love to see the 2 city specializations that were originaly announced to be put into the master block. Or even better. How about the ability to activate 2 specializations! This would cover the two mentioned for master and also allow us to mix and match. I don't think it would be that overpoweringand just like everything else, once it is enabled, it stays there until removed so a new mayor could be put into place and not worry about losing the two specializations. He just wouldn't be able to change it until he was a master. They could implement this by adding a secondary specialization slot to the city. it only becomes managable once you make master politician.

I hope people like this idea and the devs too. I seriously want some love at the master level. right now I would prefer to be a 2224 politician more than I would a master. I have not changed the specialization since I got to fiscal IV. I already have the faction terminals down and we never use the civic policy specializations. I do need customization IV just to place and pull gardens when we decide to change things up, but that is it. heck, once we make a level IV city and place a shuttleport, I would have no use for Fiscal policy at all! I would be managing a city as just a 0224 politician just the same as I would a master politician. Anyone else see something wrong with this picture????? Just wondering.

When you consider that merchants get lots of discounts on maintenance and fees, and smugglers get like 50% off everything that costs FP alredy at Underworld 3, a 5% 10% or even 20% city maintenance discount on master politician (or before) does not sounds unfair to me ... especially since politician is probably the hardest profession in the game to master ...haven't tried Jedi though, so leave that one be

To be honest, i think politician should have alot more skills in the higher, most expensive, skill boxes. All we have atm is specializations and a faction terminal.

I would also like to know what happened to the "Two specializations" skill for a city, is it still there ? because its in the tooltip, but not in the ability box

Doesnt Master grant you two new specializations?

The Industrial Society and the other that combines the healing and entertainment specials? I read about them in the advanced guides and I know it doesnt say anything in the skill box itself, but the description reads about gaining extra specializations. Anyone check out City Hall before giving up Master to see if those specializations do show up?

i just checked for the n-th time (doesn't hurt to be sure), and those two "master" specializations are not available

I also checked the specialization management option in the city hall and there is nothing new for masters. Those were planned specializations, but I am guessing they either had problems with them working or thought they would be too over powering to have both. I don't think they would be, but who knows what the devs think.
