We have been discussing recently about changing Mayor in the Player City I run (I was a stop-gap measure to try and replace our founding Mayor who hasn't been able to play for various reasons), and the idea was bandied about of my putting down a small house outside of the city limits, and swapping my residency to that house (effectively leaving the city).
My question is....what will happen to the City Hall, etc, and who then would become Mayor? We are planning on having one citizen run against me and have a small number of residents vote for him. Theoretically if I moved residency out of town, I would assume that whoever was left in the running would become Mayor by default. And I say theoretically as I haven't been able to find anything concrete either in here or in the FAQ's to say "if the mayor leaves town, this happens...".
I would love to have a confirmation ofexactly what does happen in this situationbefore taking such action.
Or is it a case of convincing the other residents to vote for the other mayoral candidate?

My PA hall is my declared residence and it is still outside of our radius. It shows that I still have that as my declared so I'm pretty sure it won't make a difference if you do this or not, you'll still be mayor assuming you win the election.

Apparently, the mayor's residence is "city hall" and he or she can't redeclare residence elsewhere (at least that's what happened when I tried something similar with an alt).

Yep, this is tied to the fact that the mayor can't be removed from office either by their choice or other means besides losing an election.
Our mayor even surrendered all politican skills...even novice and is still mayor.
