i tried to place a city hall last night. my target planet had one drop off and i was now able to drop one!wheni tried to drop the player city the message that was flashed said i was two close to 'X City' located at blah blah coordinates..
I knew this city was there before i started planning this task. the city is more than 1000m away. everything that i've read, 'Advanced Guide to Players Cities'and the 'FAQ' and even the ingame 'Knowlege Base'indicates thatCity Halls need to be spaced >1000m apart. Well this city location was more than 1000m away and it would not let me drop the city hall.
I filled out a ticket and the csr replied back stating it needs to be 1000m from the other cities boundry. Is he right?
If not, Is this a known bug?
Thanks!

as far as I know, it's 1km between city halls. make sure you have the correct wp for ther other city (for calculation) by going to their city terminal.

With the maximum boundary size of a Metropolis being 450m out from the City Hall, having 2 city halls 1000m apart should allow both to grow to Rank5 without any overlapping taking place.
I'd be more inclined to redo your measurement from say the closest corner of the City Hall and measure 1000m out from this point. You may only be off by a matter of 100m (measurements in SWG being rather elastic at the best of times).

when i tried to drop my city it gave me waypoint smack dab in the middle of thethe other cities' city hall.
wonder if it's calculated from this point or the closest corner of the actual building?

Are you sure there isnt another outpost or something in the area that may not be registerd on the map within that 1000m?.

Hadnt thought of that one - the main planets can get very busy.

I beleive from my experience is that it is from dead center of the city hall . Reason i say this is cause like others stated when i placed city hall i got a wp for dead center of it . I then used that an my wp meter to test the boundry on the city an it was from that point -1 , so 299m instead of 300m was in city limits , an so on .

We recently placed a new city, and had to place at 1100m away, anything less resulted in being told it was too close, right up to 1099m, we were too close.

when i tried to drop the city hall, it gave an error message with wp to the nearbye city. the waypoint thatit created was smack dab in the middle of the othercity hall.
the 1100m distance mentioned above by fatgit is correct.I stand 1099m away from the waypoint and i can't place the city hall. only receive the error message. I stand 1100m away and i CAN. so much for the knowledge basebeing correct. too bad the center of my propossed site is around 1080m away.
i wish they would correct the knowledge base, faq and advanced guide to player cities. they all mention '1000m rule' which states cities need to be "at least 1000m from city hall to city hall"
having correct information here would have saved me and serveral other players so much time. we will be unable to drop this city in this location. since the entire area is densely populated i won't be able to drop anywhere near this area, at least until the october database purge.
i've been in contact with 2 differentCSRs and both have told me that it needs to be 1000m from player city BOUNDRY! (which is wrong cause that would put me at 1150m from their city hall)
anyways, haven't given up yet! awaiting round 3 reply with csrRandom

Interesting...
Though I'm not real susprised they added 100 meters additional buffer in there or something.
I wouldn't really wait for the CSRs to help out much. They're probably just reading from the same (incorrect) knowledge base themselves. And they sure as heck won't be able to move the other town further away or somehow grant you rights to place the city hall inside the "buffer zone".
I'd suggest go ahead and place the City Hall at the 1100 meters spot... Before someone else beats you to it and you're really screwed. I don't think those 20 meters difference between your proposed spot at 1080 is going to doom your city.
