I was told to post this in this forum, but I've never been in here before.

Here's a fewsilly little ideas I just had, not sure if it's been brought up before:

1).How about having street level vendors in cities? Either NPC or player run vendors along streets in cities. They would have to be limited to certain spots and of course the rent that gets charged for the spot would be dependent on the location.Maybe even a salestaxsystem based on location instead of a fixed rate based on time.Perhaps players could set up a NPC vendor on a spot they lease from the city council. I large, non-player, cities players without merchant skills could set up for a short time and have other players "browse" their wears. Yes the last part is an idea from EQ, but I think it's a good one. This would be another much needed money sink to remove cash from the economy.

Having vendors in player cities that are outside of a house and that you can actually notice as you drive by would help a lot of struggling crafters. Driving through a city a player is more likely to stop and shop if they don't have to get off the speeder and go in and out of every house. Sure those of us that can have area and planet wide advertisement skills, can have our vendors show up on the overhead map, but what about everyone else?

2). Another idea I had was to add information terminals. Just a simple term that has "POI" for a city. In a player city guild hall, vendor and misc terminallocations could be added. Also contact information and city details like number of residence and taxes could be viewable. It beats having to search through the forums looking for contact info on city "X".

3). Signs. Why can't we have better signs on buildings, both player and non-player buildings. Neon signs and the like that architechs could build and that players could added to the outside of their buildings. Sure I've seen some really creative signs on houses and stuff but they don't catch the eye unless you mouse over the sign. How about something more eye catching, like a flashing neon sign reading "So-and-so's great stuff imporium"? I know I'd stop and take alook.

I'd love some constructive feedback from players and maybe even some moderators.

Greetings and Salutations!

Here is a small post to throw out a good-natured constructive petition for some changes on cities and mayors.

*Please increase planet caps. Please. Others are waiting to start their own communities. There is pleanty of room to grow. Expectant and hopeful new city residents have no choice but wish for the destruction of other's cities so they may place their community. This is a negitive thing. Compitition for citizens is hard enough.

*CITY CHAT- in a multi guild city this would be such a special feature. I like planet chat idea (though it seems too rarely used). But I feel confident that if City Chat was readily available then it would be used by residents.

*Let buildings have outdoor lighting that auto comes on when night approaches. Having a door light is very attractive. Having lights light up the entrance of civic and guild hall buildings is very attractive. Cities look better lit up. This should be a simple enough fix yes? Placing street lights seems a horrible wast of city decoration limits, and simply adjusting player buildings with the ability to have entrance lighting would go along way.

*can we PLEASE mow the grass or put in pavement, and other pedestrian/traffic devices? please please please?!? even the largest player cities look so unappealing when compared to static cities. And creating a beautiful city isa goal for most mayors.

*politicians should be able to place a merchant like information tent without taking up lot space, and charge it to the city.

*politicians should be able to appoint city administrators (who are alos politicians and earn exp while appointed, if maybe only a faction of the mayors exp points )and grant them /zoning rights ability and email. City militia should be revamped as well, and seperate from the administrators. Or at the least, allow for the mayor to assign abilities like in a guild hall. I personally belive that these militia should be based on npc militia that would patrol the city. For instance: a for declared Imperial city would have storm troopers patrolling the city boundries, just like they do with bases. And the same for rebel cities. these npcs would could be random spawns around the city, or there could be a small faction dector the mayor can place where the npc militia would patrol. Neutral cities should be able to choose the planet security force as an option, this RSF for Naboo and Coresec for Corellia. /cityban would be an administrator power.

*** or more to the point: allow for double guild membership: The guild and the city, have guild like powers given to the city, only available within city limits of corse.

* please can we have a better varity of structure to place? and encorage people to move to the city by droping the amount of lots a strucure takes if placed in a city? (Im speeking of large houses and guild halls). Also.. can we get the neet little guilds? the ones with the monuments already attached? Some even have carpeting. This would be a very very nice addition. Since they are smaller, can we have them only worth like 6 lot sizes?

*can we have certin player structures deeded to the city hall to pay for maintience? For instance, city malls, usually a guild hall, could be paid for by all citizens via taxes (i know the mayor can take money from treasury, but everyones alarms go off when this happens). I know we want to keep cantinas and hospitals in player hands, but maybe these too can be deeded to the city hall and paid for there.

*can we have maybe a mayor ability to place npc vendors thatbarksgreetings and informationto tourists just like merchants vendors do? This would be very helpful. Even if only in a city hall.... many mayors have something simular by enlisting the aid of a merhcant willing and loyal enough to give one of his vendors away. But that is more trouble then it is worth. The mayor should be able to set up information vendors stratigetly about to keep residents and tourists informed.

*lastly, is there a way (and this may be contraversial) for mayors to be paid though a salery out of treasury? which is itimized so others can see it? I am a full time mayor and am always on call for my citizens who need me to place a speciatly trainer or answer questions. Rarely do I have time for the hunt or craft. Allowing mayors to be paid for their services is only fair. Also.. the administrators too.. and others, like full time entertainer or doc, no tip required to them because they are on salery kind of thing

This is my server-down rant. This is constructive criticism. Please dont let this be a flaming thread. But please post your comments!

Thanx!

1. City Chat is now doable. Our city has set up a City Chat channel on the servers, and now that people are able to be auto-logged into a chat channel upon joining the game, this chat channel has existed since that day. We use it all the time. So, just set up a chat channel and invite your citizens to join it once, and thereafter they will autojoin it if they were joined to it when they exited the game.

2. Outdoor lighting for buildings. I would love this, as well. Perhaps more as a feature to be added to either civic structures (City Hall, Shuttleport, etc), or to be added to structures in general. Perhaps it can even be a slight drain on the maint for regular structures ("Turn on outdoor lighting" = +X% to the maint) similar to how vendors' maint costs go up with the features you have it do. Good idea!

3. Mayor Salary. You can already do this. You can withdrawk 50k per week from the treasury, and the citizens will already be notified. You would have to tell your citizens this is WHY you're doing it (and probably get their approval ahead of time) but after that point you can just do it weekly and there's your salary. If you think you deserve more than that, then that's between you and your citizens.

This isnt exactly a city improvement , but would effect cities , especialy those with several small structures owned by single people .

Make buildings storage equal to their lots like the smaller buildings are . As In the following :

1lot houses = 75 storage (currently)

2lot houses = 150 storage (curently)

3lot houses = 225 storage (curently)

6lot houses = 250 storage (curently) - would change to 450 storage

7lot houses = 250 storage (curently) - would change to 525 storage

9lot houses = 250 storage (curently) - would change to 675 storage

Now people may say that this isnt needed but i say it is . As a guild leader you are responsable for a guild hall that eats either 7 or 9 lots an only affords you 250 storage for both your personal stuff an decorations for the guild halls . Also with the size an amount of possibilities it would be hard to decorate a 3 level guild hall with only a max of 250 items an still afford for any storage for personal use at all .

This would also cut down the over crowding of buildings in town . Reason i say this is those who have firgured to get max storage for their lots are useing 3-5 2 lot houses . i would rather see more large structures in town then to see a ton of small one that overall eat of more available land then one large one would . Of course not everyone would use larger structures as they require a more flat land to place then smaller ones do now . Just as im sure many will say if this happen everyone would use guild halls . i dont beleive this to be the case cause of the amounts of lots , most people like to have a few extra for harvesters an what not . Plus this could help crafters in the fact they could place one large house useing 6 lots an decorate that vendor it also an still have plenty of space for storage rather then haveing several "warehouses" an a small shop .

I like the ideas a lot. But one thing I'd like to add... remove or increase greatly the decoration limit on city ranks. There's too many dark cities out there that simply want to put up fountains and such to look pretty, but don't have the space to put in lamp posts too.

One way to get around this is to concentrate your decorations in one or two spots in the city. People don't really expect an *entire* city to be lighted up and decorated (it'd be nice, but we gotta be realistic).

Check out Rauha, Naboo (Starsider) (my city). We've concentrated all of our gardens and streetlights in our commercial district, with a smattering of lighted gardens in other areas of the city, just to have non-streetlight lights. I think it's worked out pretty well, and we get a lot of compliments about our city.
