last week in politics

slightly late, sorry... I've gone back to a more reasonable sleeping schedule

I've been hanging out in my city more this week, although not much is happening. some of my militia members and I met up to discuss a few things about the city, including this "lack of activity". we've agreed that we should start up some of the city activities again, such as city hunts. I like the lack of kiddies running around in the city though, I get a lot more peace and quiet

I kidnapped another guy to be my slav... *ahem*, excuse me... I added another militia member to the city Zakonel is only responsible for keeping the peace around NU, and I think he's happy that he can now ban the kiddies that cause trouble around the city

I will keep the combat sandbox testing application on the forum for a bit longer, and might leave it over the weekend if the devs don't ask for the names by then. the correspondent summit is the end of this week, so I'll be gone from Thursday to Sunday. don't burn down the forum, and if you have something really really important... well, wait a few days. I'll be back Sunday

so how was your city this week?

edit: oops, wrong date, heh

Dear Pappi:

City of Rauha, Naboo (Starsider)

Not *too* much going on this week. We're planning the city party for the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, have lined up a performing entertainment group (dancing, singing and music) and getting prizes ready for the pull-tabs, as well as coming up with other party games. I love parties - just gotta keep people interested in what's going on.

Finally got the ability to place the cloner (concentrated on gardens and decorations first, of course...duhhh ). So now our city is mostly complete. Very highly decorated and very costly, but that's the price of being pretty.

You can check out some of the scenery here: Rauha website at www.rauha.com.

Also, this weekend some of our city participated in our sister city's Droid Invasion (Braxis, Naboo). I tried to get some movie footage of it, but my FRAPS broke down in the middle (ran outta HD space) and I lost most of what I had filmed. However, you can see some of it in this tribute video: Droid Invasion of Braxis. I think this goes to show that the Devs, though not giving player cities anything new over the course of the next few months, are still working with people and still doing things for player-based content.

New Kabala, Lok, Lowca Galaxy

Breaking News: New Kabala will reach the status of a Level 2 city tonight.

Thanks to the new citizens, JaxPunk, Marvel, and Buckeye, New Kabala now has the citizen requirements for level 2. Tonight New Kabala will celebrate the grand opening of it's new Parking Garage, Banking Center, and Cantina. Mayor Oreet also plans on commissioning the construction of 2 fountains in the center of the city, along with several small gardens. When reached for comment, Mayor Oreet had this to say, "I'd like to thank all of the loyal citizens of New Kabala for their hard work, and for sticking with us in these first few weeks of slow growth. I know it has been hard on our Merchants, but with these latest additions to the city, I am confident that our traffic will increase a great deal."

When asked about the rumors of taxes being levvied on New Kabala's citizens, the Mayor had this to say, "Nothing has been set in concrete yet. Yes, we will begin to levy taxes on our citizens, but I am determined to keep these taxes as low as possible. Myself, and the rest of the governing council of the city must sit down and discuss this before setting anything in stone. One thing I can state as fact though, is that there will be a tax on the use of the Parking Garage, to help offset the cost of up-keep."

Mayor Oreet also intends on employing several more experts, in various professions, to offer training to our citizens in their chosen fields. He also plans on setting up several more up-link terminals giving the citizens quick and direct access to job listings all over Lok.

The Mayor plans on completing work on the New Kabala Museum of Antiquities this week, and hopes to hold it's grand opening sometime next week.

-- This week in Aurora --

General News:

Aurora is a greatRebelmetropolis on Naboo. Though the planet is overrun with Imperially aligned players, Aurora remains a sanctuary for Rebel players. After several weeks of battleing to save the Rebel bases in Aurora, we have turned our attention to supporting our Rebel allies. Combat troops from Aurora are involved in the defense of other major Rebel cities, such as Mos Syn and Star League. More and more of Aurora is joiing the fight every night. This effort has been lead by the BOTD Military Activity Council and other leaders from Aurora.

With the results of the 2nd All-Citizen survey finally released we can talk about what makes Aurora such a great city. The community of Aurora has a broad community of players. Twenty-nine percent of Aurora citizens are under the age of 20; Another twenty-nine percent are between the ages of 21 and 30; Twenty-five perent are aged 31-40 and seventeen percent are over the age of 40. The changes in age from the 1st to the 2nd survey are interesting as well. Aurora has added over thirty new citizens. Yet the ratio of players aged 31 and older remained approximately the same. At the same time, the ratio of players under the age of twenty increased from sixteen percent to twenty-nine percent. The community has a nice balance of players of all ages. We have a large number of exuberant, youthful players which is balanced by the more sedate and patient older group of players. The later group helps keep things calm and directed, while the former keeps Aurora energized and active.

We enjoy hunting in difficult areas, use a variety of combat styles and have accumulated a lot of wealth. Several of our members are active members of the military for their country. As this community grows we look forward to surveying them again and investigating how we have matured as a group of online players in StarWars Galaxies. We will release more data from the survey in upcoming weeks.

The full report can be found here:

http:///www.rbectel.co.uk/html/swgaurora/downloads/surveyresults1.pdf.

City Mall and Merchants:

Aurorais a zero sales tax city. This means lower prices on every item on the vendors in Aurora. Stop by and check out what the 30+ vendors are selling.

The Aurora mall offers high quality products, at low prices and is only a 1 minute ride from Moenia, or a quick shuttle trip through the Aurora Shuttle port. The vendors are restocked every few days and the city is seeing a steady stream of customers to our citizen's vendors. With such great vendors asCuk's Food, Ackac's Droids, Hadrian's Deeds and Furniture, Agoln's Meds, Yhaigs Clothing, a Omilossk's Mideical Supplies and all the numerous miscellaneous vendors, Aurora is able to offer high quality goods and products at low prices. The mall is on the western edge of town. Stop by andget that item you have been looking for!

City Finances:

With the new tax structure in place the city is earning approximately 50,000 credits per day. The city continues to remove gardens every week prior to the maintenance cycle. This reduces the maintenance costs by 250k. It isunfortunate that taxes are not sufficient to support the city with all its gardens in place. We hope to get more gardens sponsored and the new cit plan is designed with this in mind.

City Governance:

The city council is due to meet after the Labor Day holiday. We are looking to begin the city redevelopment program and want to make certain that each PA residing in Aurora has a copy of the plan. The Deputy Mayors are working hard to help citizens move in and learn more about the great commuinty that they are joining. Aurora is also proud to announce that we are developing a web site unique to Aurora. It will focus on the city finances, charter, business initiatives, PA's living in town and all the great events. You can check it out as we build it. It is located at http://swgaurora.com. There is no WWW in that URL, until I can get Register.com to transfer the URL.

City Event Guide:

Finally, several guilds are continuing to run weekly hunts out of Aurora. BOTD and E-Den have standard hunting nights and all folks are welcome to join them.Check out the discussion groups at www.swgbotd.com and www.enforcers-guild.com for more information. This Friday (8/2704) Aurora is proudly hosting the inaugural edition of Trading SWG Spaces, two teams each get two hours and 25,000 credits with which they can redecorate a room in their neighbors house.

That is about all that is happening this weekin our great community.

Valley of Valhala, Naboo (Tempest)

Other than Jandofett's guild starting to move in this week everything has been mostly quiet. Also due to my RL work schedule i have been off and on for the past 2 weeks. We plan to start picking up the pase however in the coming weeks.

OurPopulation is still hovering around 150 and steadily growing. We are still in the process of revitalizing our merchant tent area by adding a vendor mall in a guild hall to free up space in our over crowded tents. Commerce directors Vascian and Tavlor are working on that issue.

The Imperial guild (IGR) led by Oxiwiss has recently placed thier base offering more to our imp citizens. he reb guild (VHLA) led by kry is in the process of placing thier base as well.

We have a city council meeting next weekend and will discuss the state of our city.

First I want to say hello and nice to meet you all.

A week ago I started a city with my friends that have been with me since we started (2.5months ago).

The city is named Atlantis. We are slowly growing with a current population of 24. Tonight was our first city updated and we got bumped to Village. I also finally got my political experience. I trained in 0-0-1-1 and put down some streetlamps and two mission terminals.

Amongst the starting citizens we have weaponsmiths, smugglers, armorsmiths, architects (me), and many merchants amongst others.

I am running a business called Corvette, Inc. outside of my home. I sell lots of different homes and what not to help pay for the city. Being so small I have nothing totally exciting to say. Upgrading to Village was pretty exciting to myself however.

If you would like to swing buy, we are located on the Radiant server. Our home is on Naboo (2580 4803). For fastest way, fly to Keren City.

Looking forward to talking more, as I am only a novice politician.

Thanks,

Equatis

City of Babelon, Naboo, Lowca

General News:

First, let me introduce myself, I am Nerate Mireth, Babelon City Militia Captain (read Deputy Mayor) and am in charge of the city when our Mayor is away. I have been given the responsibility of maintaining peace and order in the city. Babelon is a neutral city and as such makes only a few simple requests of all visitors:

1. No overt status in town. We don't care WHAT faction you belong to. We ask that if you wish to visit our great city that you do so covert. This is not only to keep the GCW out of our town but for your own safety as well.

2. No open PvP unless sanctioned in a friendly duel between all involved.

3. Have fun and enjoy your visit.

With that said, I will move on. In recent weeks we have seen an influx of "gank squads" and Jedi Kill Teams(JKTs) coming through the city. Reason being is that a few of our citizens are Jedi. Now, in an ideal place, this would not be a problem. And most of the time it isn't as alot of the JKTs are professional about it. We greet them, explain our city policies and request they take it out of city limits while explaining that we are sympathetic to their mission status. And most of them are understanding and keep it professional and respect our rules. Yet we have others who are nothing more than a guild of griefers and exploiters that the Powers That Be (CSRs) seem to ignore all reports on. They do what they want, cause trouble and exploit loopholes in the code. We verbally warn them and they continue to grief and cause problems. We cityban them yet they are still able to use the shuttle through the /BO TRA command. In a nutshell, myself and my militia are powerless to defend our own city from these people. It is frustrating to say the least to see our peaceful, beautiful city being griefed by unrespectful children. If cityban were to truly be a true ban, then not only would they NOT be able to use the /BO TRA command, but would not be able to enter ANY building in the city limits. If we had CITYWARN with, say, a 3 minute timer (3 minutes before they get a TEF that allows militia to attack them without them being able to defend themselves) then we could at least enforce our laws. But as it stands, many of my citizens cry about our lack of action when we can't take any. And some of my militia feel that they are nothing but glorified Zoning Techs able to only give out zoning rights.

Our city is comprised of 1 main guild, BABE, a PvE/Entertainers guild. We recently lost a guild from our city, SV, as they were offered a city of their own, fully built. We were sorry to see them depart but at the same time we are happy for them and they are welcome amongst us anytime and we are welcome in their city.

Babelon is also a ZERO SALES TAX city. We have merchants clustered around the shuttleport. They are home to some of the best Chef, BE, DE, AS, Tailor, Architect, WS, Doc, and resource vendors on the server. We offer all kinds of shopping and if you can't find what you're looking for you can usually find someone who will be more than happy to assist you.

Currently there are talks underway to have a large event in Babelon, to which everyone will be invited. Once things become final, they will be announced on the boards.

Welcome WolfStrong, I would like to compliment you on your fine city. I have been ot Babelon MANY times, and such a large and successful city is one of the primary things that influenced me to become the mayor of my own town. I just hope that someday my city can grow to be as famous and well known across the Lowca Galaxy as Babelon. If you ever fancy a visit to Lok, look me up, and I'll give you a tour of New Kabala.

And anyone with a character on Lowca, be sure to head to Naboo, and pay a visit to Babelon, as it is one of the finest cities in our Galaxy.

Hellos again all , Glad to see many positive reports so far this past week .

This week on shadowfire/Dant the city of Shadowgate has been relitively busy for me . On saturday we hit our third weekly update with a 61 member count , so i was able to open out shuttle up opperations . This in turn brought on the long an painstakenly process of starting the mall for those in town wanting to sell loots an such . I also converted over my TKM ability to Sp again so i may be able to take up merchant an thus place tents for Professional Tradespeople who wish to locate to our fine area .

We have noticed one major drawback to our fair city as of now an that is the lack of support an trade characters in town . We curently support about 4-5 master docs an about every combat profession there is , but lack entertainers an tradespeople . So I am now in the process of trying to get more trade oreinted players or at least vendors to set up , an preferably more then the 2 entertainers we curently have as they are also combatants its hard to find one in town .

The nightly solo groups still continue through my Trusted an Valued right hand Marl an his Lovely Wife Abbiey . An though this may not be the place to say this , but i wish every mayor can find someone as dependable an outstanding as i have in these two people . I would not have time to work on deco or the mall or anything else for town if not for them running groups for town events like the solo groups an the different hunts , much less lending a hand with the many many emails an influx of people wanting to join us .

We curently have a unofficial council for town consisting of Marl , Abbiey , Jynxx , Senobee , Kinsley , Haldir , an of course myself . Once we get the town compleetly lined out an the influx slows down some we plan to institute a formal council who will meet weekly to discuss the state of the city . In the planed council we plan to have reps from any an all guilds in town , faction reps for those in the 3 factions as well as reps for crafters , entertainers , medics , an combatants . This way when we discuse what we plan for events an such we can have people from all walks to input their ideas an oppinions so we dont leave anyone out in the fun .

I would lastly like to thank everyone for your post here as i like to read these to better understand how the cities around the galixies are doing an get further ideas on how to improve ours based on many of your triumphs an sucesses .

Oreet I would like to thank you for your kind words. We have worked very hard on our city. The hard work and time put in pays off in the end, just ask any of our successful and wealthy merchants or the myriad of visitors we get in town. I haven't been to Lok in awhile but I will definately drop by and pay a visit on your city. I always enjoy visiting new cities and offering help/advice where I can.
