Thread: what do Politicians think of these ideas?

what if they made the "Static Cities" no longer static?


they could allow Players to rent apartments and shops inside of these iconic Star Wars cities.


and what if they allowed you the Politicians, to run the cities?


there could be a Player electedCity Council, made up of 9 Player Politicians for each city. they'd be charged with the task of voting on issues to balance the budget and help their city remain successful and popular. also they could decide, or attempt to decide the city's factional alignment.


they would either be a part of the Empire, or not. either way, NPCs from the opposite faction would regularly attempt to overrun the city. and the council would have to make sure there's enough defense to protect the city. Cities who go against their planetary factional majority would see more resistance from NPC forces. (for example: if there were more Imperial cities on Naboo, and Keren decided to not support the Empire, they would see larger invasions and more often)


the currently static cities would no longer be static. city councils could add buildings that add to the city's uniqueness and strength. current buildings ineach city would convert to new building types.each building type would have a certain maintenance cost so that's where balancing the budget comes into play:


- defenses. these would be garrison buildings that would spawn NPCs who would protect the city against invasion of the opposite faction's troops. also turrets and walls or gates could be added to certain areas/cities. these NPCs would also patrol the neighborhoods their garrisons are placed in, so that undefended areas may see increased criminal activity.


- medical practices. med centers/hospitals would give bonuses to healing and buffing, medical labs would give bonuses to medical crafting.


- entertainment. theaters and cantinas which would give bonuses to entertainment and the effects from it (probably have to wait and see what they have in store for entertainers, as i'm sure there's some big changes coming at some point) maybe the addition of casinos could be considered. Cities with a higher entertainment focus could gain access to special event types (think something like that "Bubble show" from EP III) something cool and just different that you wouldn't see elsewhere.


- crafting. workshops would give bonuses to various crafting types. maybe a single building with various departments for each crafting type. i think cantinas and hotels could give a bonus to Chef crafting though.


- education. schools/universities where NPC trainers would be found. larger schools would have access to more trainer types.

- housing. these would be apartment buildings and houses that Player residents would rent. the rents would go to the city treasury to fund all the other things. these would allow cities to grow (maybe in some cases upwards in that they could add a feature where the council could choose to add stories to a sky scraper) and generate more funds for the city to add other building types.


- shops. these would be open air markets, and closed in shops or malls that Player Merchants could rent and set up vendors in. the rent would go to the city treasury to fund the rest.



each building type would have varying levels of potency. higher level buildings would cost more to maintain, but would yeild higher results to whatever their purpose is.


maybe there could be additional types of buildings, but i can't think of any right now.


so what do you, the Politicians, think of these ideas? i know many of us have worked very hard to build up our Player cities, but would you rather be able to live in, and build up an iconic Star Wars city instead? one that feels more like a city than the current Player cities do?
