welcome back guy, hope you had a happy 4th... I couldn't see the fireworks from my window
I've finally gotten myself and some of my militia together and put in some new changes in the city. after confirming that buffs are affected by the medical center specialization, I've switched the city from manufacturing to medical. I chose this over improved job market because most high end player (which help pay for our treasury) don't hunt in the city, we can't justify the cost of research specialization, and there's no need for any other city specialization. only 1 of my citizens have told me that they they prefer the manufacting, and this is someone who recently came back from a long absence. most people I've talked to agree that this should attract more high-end player to visit our city before they head out for high level content, and it's a specialization that would benefit the whole server.
I've also set the sales tax to 0%, mainly because we're executing some steps to bring merchants into the city. we've talked to a few people who don't stock their vendors any more to take away their vendor, and we redeeded a few of our merchant tents to rid of the rest of the idle vendors. we're also inviting a few merchants to move into our city, and eliminated the sales tax to encourage commerce. I might bring back the sales tax if the treasury needs resucing, but from the amount of donations people dumped into the city we should be ok for a while
another major change is the reopening of our citizenship application process. I took this out before since I was rather busy, and most applicants are screened by me before seeking approval of the city/guild. Since this process takes time, I decided to put it on hold when I was busy over school. now that I'm on summer break, I've started to take applications again. we don't need new citizens, but we do welcome new members to our community.
only bad thing... now that I have more time, that gives people more time to bug me O.o therefore I've added another 2 militia members to help so I can spend more time relaxing and watching over the forums. I've also stocked my tailor vendors on ahazi
eek, getting late... I mean, early... bedtime. yes, 6am... goodness O.o

Pappi,
My citizens (guild) and I have decided to open our city to others that would be non-guild members. Meaning they will not be required to join our guild.
I'd like some suggestions from you on what to look for and what does your application process intell?
We are a purely Imperial based guild and would like to keep our city as such. So that would be a rule...erm guideline or what not.

hehe, maybe I should start a "dear Pappi" post
the NU application process starts with an email or tell to either myself or a militia member. we tell them that they need at least 3 recommendations from existing citizens, and have read the rules on our forum at www.swgtest.com under Unity. then after they reply back and got 3 people to email me recommendations, I ask around to see if there are any comments or objections. then I alert the militia if the person's been approved. a militia member always overseas any building placed (unless I gave out the zoning rights, and I really trust the person)
one thing you'll need to watch out for as a "factioned city" is the possibility that a citizen go rogue, or even rebel. I don't have advice for that though =/

-- This week in Aurora --
General News:
Aurora is sad to annouce that theassociation KKFOS has decided to move on to another location. I am sad to see such a great group of people leave our city and I hope they enjoy their new location. Even with the loss of KKFOS, new people are joining Aurora every day. With other great guilds such as Sprirt, The Enforcers, Insurgent Force and BOTD calling Aurora their home, we are seeing a continuous influx of new citizens. The daily churn of people leaving and joining is pretty much a net zero game for Aurora right now.
The 2nd all-citizen survey went out to the citizens of Aurora last week. We are collecting the responses and plan to publish the results sometime next week. The last survey and this one share several common questions and I am looking forward to seeing how this community has changed over the last 3 months.
City Mall:
The Aurora mall continues to offer high quality products, at low prices and is only a 1 minute ride from Moenia, or a quick shuttle trip through the Aurora Shuttle port. The vendors are restocked every couple days and the city is seeing a steady stream of customers to our citizen's vendors. With such great vendors as Boceifus's weapons, Woseu's Armor, Cuk's Food, Ackac's Droid, Hadrian's Deeds and Furniture, Yhaigs Clothing, and all the numerous miscellaneous vendors, Aurora is able to offer high quality goods and products at low prices. The mall is on the western edge of town and is currently undergoing some redecorating efforts as we refine our look and feel to better suit the shopping needs of our customers.
City Finances:
Aurora recently lowered our taxes now that we have individual sponsors for many gardens in the city. This enables us to very nearly balance our budget even with the lower taxes. With alldecorations in place, the city maintenance bill is approximately 750,000 cr per week. The expense of having many gardens in town can be back-breaking and the continued sponsorship of gardens ensures that Aurora remains an attractive city for all our residents.
City Governance:
The city council is meeting this week to discuss such weighty issues as the new "No Harvestors within city limits" policy, the placement of faction bases, and the development of the new city plan.
After numerous complaints concerning the "Pittsburgh Effect" from burning harvestors within city limits, the city council developed a new policy to limit theirplacement inside the city boundries. The new policy is as follows:
3.7 The placement of harvestors and/or miners within the limits of the city is forbidden except under the following conditions:
3.7.1 The resource to be collected must have at least one quality rated at 990 or higher.
3.7.2 All harvestors placed within the city must have the owners name and resource name in the havestor name.
3.7.3 All harvestors must be removed after the resource has shifted.

Aylum news (Naboo, Eclipse)
108 residents, quite happy about this as 2 weeks ago we were floundering around 85/86.
The space alloted to a mall right next to the shuttle port is still empty and no interested parties yet.
I (my alt the mayor) took the big decision to remove all trainers. very little moaning about this..but once it was explained about the cost and lot cost, coupled with the fact that everyone nearly allways trains off planet where they are hunting or form a guildie...all went quiet.
Still waiting to get my politician xp high enough so i can start moving some of the sity structures around.garage/ shuttle port.
The next biggie is the considering removing research status...we'll see.

Dear Pappi
(I think this format would be VERY cute, and would be fun to do with the TWIP's)
The City of Rauha, Naboo (Starsider) is doing fine. Nothing new this week, as most people were on vacations due to the long weekend. We did set up several fireworks displays for the general populace, one of which can be seen here (over Theed):
All in all a very steady week. We're going to be starting a recruiting drive in a few weeks, just need to work out a few details.

Alya'Starn, Corellia on Starsider
Last week one of our city members decided to run for Mayor. Although her official campaign was to begin the 3rd, she registered early to grab a bit of experience. On Friday, the day before the election she had amassed 28 out of 74 votes, which we were not expecting because the real push had not begun.
I logged in on Saturday with two hours to the election and we were up to 34 votes! Those two hours were a flurry where we got two more citizen to vote and had three friends help us out by joining the city. I was bouncing off the walls I was so happy.
Ten minutes to the update with the tally at 39 to 38, our new mayor-to-be logged in. I distracted her during the update so she could not check the totals. Needless to say, the city update mail caught her a bit off-guard.
After four or five months of trying and failing to replace our old mayor (who was trying to get out), we finally achieved our goal. The ironic thing is we accomplished it before she was "officially" running. Saturday was supposed to kick-off the campaign, not end it.
Congratulations Nowi!

Laurus, Corellia (Starsider)
Laurus continues to grow at a steady, but sensible clip. Last week, we achieved one of our long time goals of placing a shuttleport down in the city! We collectively rejoiced.
On top of that, a CSR removed our old, dying cantina that was the result of its owner going A.W.O.L. Our new deed was put down in its stead and we're preparing a huge Grand Opening bash on the 16th! If you're on Starsider, come on out! I'd also like to give a big thanks to the CSRs for handling this process. I've been very impressed with how they've assisted me in recent months with the bugs and issues I've encountered.
But I digress. As a politician, I've been very hands-on as it pertains to the three growing rebel guilds in the city. I've met with the leaders and am ensuring that all guilds are able to prosper. On top of that, I've organized our city laws and have a government set up that will handle the various activities of the city that are more geared toward their specializations. Additionally, I've been in talks with other cities about forming alliances, and placing down embassies to strengthen the bonds.
With the guilds and government set, I am about to embark on a recruitment campaign to strengthen our city even further. I feel that with three guilds, a shuttle and a strong community, we offer an excellent place to live for people.
Thanks for reading, and please stop by and take a tour of the city. I'd love to show you around.

TheCu Pa mount trotted alongbetween longrows of houses as the sun began torise on Lok. Yes, the AV-21 landspeeder Selak, one of the leaders from HALO, gave him as a gift was a more graceful ride, butNazz preferred a more organic mode of transportation when riding through the Lokian Abyss these days. He noticed more details about thecity, and ever try have a speeder come when you call it? Thingswere changing, and changing fast at that, but there was a great sense of peace in the city. He felt it as sure as he felt the sun shining on him from above.
The election was over. The holonet messages of congratulations had all been read. The heat of campaigning was all done and now the real work was ahead. Kaylas hadn't been around since before the election, and probably wouldn't surface again for a while. Kay could do that. Come and go like he pleased, but Nazz had made a commitment to this community. He had roots now. He had responsibilities.
Apert electroninc signal sounded to tell Nazz he had an incoming message. He checkedhis command smiled. Trean, one of the Lokian Abyss' previous mayors, the first onein fact, had sent a message thata new census had been released. The Abyss was now the largest city on Lok, and the 17th largest city in the galaxy. This was good news, and Nazz felt a sense of gratitude to the previous mayors Piah and Trean forwhathe had inherited. He sent a quick message back to Trean thanking him for the information, with a note that this was only the beginning. Nazz kept riding through the city till he came to the shuttle, and noticed an unfamiliar face. A rather happy looking Bothan was poking around the visitor tent.
"Excuse me but do you know where I can finda fishing pole?" The well-dressed Bothan said with a smile.
"Fishing pole on Lok? I wouldn't do too muchfishing here. Those sulpher rivers can get mighty ripe when the sun gets hot and those flies are a constant annoyance," Nazz smiled and got off the Cu Pa, "but if you visit that tentover by the bankyou will find a Vendor who has some good ones at a fair price."
"Thanks! It's not for here, but I was passing through and thought I might pick one up for a visit to Talus. Good fishing there I hear. By the way call me Waba," Waba the Bothan smiled again and bowed. Nazz returned with a quick bow of his ownand his thoughts drifted for a moment. With the recent events on Libertas still fresh in his mind, fishing on Talus sounded nice. Get away from the war raging throughout the galaxy. Get away from the lingering personal conflicts of thecity.Just fish for a while, with no citizens and thier incessant "urgent" needs.
"Heh, that sounds nice Waba! I am Nazz Ar'Khan. Mayor of this city. Welcome to the Lokian Abyss. Let me walk you to the vendor and make sure you find what you are looking for, " Who was Nazz kidding? He lovedhelping people, even strangers, and he loved this city, "And by the way do you live in a city now? If not, would you like to?" Waba's smile got a little wider as they walked through one of the citiy's gardens toward the far merchant tent. Nazz could tell Waba was interested.
Kay was right. Nazz was a better politician then bounty hunter. He could always hunt or fish, but being here, growing the city, and meeting new friends gave a satisfaction that few of his adventures in the galaxy could give.
As the new Mayor of the Lokian Abyss I would like to thank all those who took the time to stop by city hall and vote Nazz! Special thanks to Lexica Vix and Maldoror of <HALO> for their dedication to the campaign, and to Ken'fu of <RogSq> for his wisdom, advice, and friendship. Extra special thanks go to Piah Moonshadows and Steve Donos of <WLP> for all their efforts in making the city unique, plus their political support and personal patience at a crucial time in the development of our community.
We are now at 89 citizens with only a small portion considered inactive. We will be going metro next update, and announcing the members of the city's new Mayoral Cabinet right after our status as metropolis is offical. I invite anyone interested to stop by and visit the Lokian Abyss on Lok, Starsider. All are welcome, and if you need something just ask me. If its in my power, it's yours to have.
Nazz Ar'Khan
Mayor of the Lokian Abyss
