We want to switch up mayors in our city. Both parties agree. However, if it comes down to a vote, I think we'll be there for a while trying to get people to actuallyvote and/or hope that inactives either sign on or disappear in order to get a majority. Is there a way for some people to vote for the new mayor and then just have the old mayor step down? Does it then default to the only guy with votes?
I hope there's an easy solution. Thanks for any advice you can share.

I wish I had good news....
At the moment the only way to replace a mayor is to vote him/her out of office in favor of someone else.
Another, perhaps worse option is to demolish the city hall, quickly replace it, and start over from rank 1. Ugly, but effective if you don't lose your spot in the caps.
It's on our top 5/bug/suggestion list, if that makes you feel any better.

I was recently voted out as mayor of Red Skull on Tatooine (Kettemoor) and it took us about 2 weeks to get it done(I hated wasting my SPs on politician.....biggest rip-off in game)......really we just tried to get as many inactives as we couldto jump back in-game and vote. If neceesary (and depending on the size of town/spread of the votes needed) you could go out and get new citizens to come to town and have them vote for the mayor you want in office. Eisley is a good spot due to the many new players, offer free housing and creds up front to entice them in....if I was a noob and some guy offered me 30k and a free house to live in their town and vote a certain way for a few weeks, I'd jump on it.
Other than that......good luck....

I have some questions about this method(hoping it has been tested).
What happens to the shuttleport upon doing this? If someone sneaks in and takes your rank 4 slot, is there no way to get it back, even if you do have a shuttleport laid? I hate to say it, but this is looking like a promising option for Mos Alianza....

your shuttleport poofs if you don't remove it before destroying the city, and you can't put it back down until you gain back the rank.

Wow, response from the correspondent himself!
Hm, guess that really isn't an option then.

I was just voted in as Mayor today of New Qaestar, Talus on the Kauri server. Luckily for me, we had a recent spike in guild members who had quit the game and returned, and also had received quite a few new citizens. We had tried to replace our mayor (who has not been playing the game for some months now) in the past but with no luck.
Anyway, here are a couple things you can do to try and get those votes. First off, I went through the City Terminal and added everyone that was a citizen to my friends list. I then emailed all of them announcing that I was running for mayor. This method got me about 10 out of 70 votes, which helped and is the least intrusive. A couple days later, I noticed there were many citizens that were logged in, but didn't vote. Many of the reasons they gave was "I don't have time", "I have better things to do" or even "I don't care". I then started keeping a tally of everyone who had voted, making a note on my friends list under the comments section. I started sending out daily emails to everyone who had not voted, and even had a couple other citizens remind their friends or anyone else they saw (almost everyone who is a citizen is also in our PA, so the guild chat was quite helpful as well).
It finally got to the point where I was sending daily /tells to people I knew had not voted. I pretty much spent the days in the City Hall checking the voting terminal and thanking people that showed up to vote. I was about 5 votes short on Tuesday and finally had to reduce myself to offering credits to those last few who still had not voted (hey, I'm a politician, I'm allowed to be crooked and buy votes!). This worked quite well as I had gotten those last votes quickly, though it broke my bank account. I did manage to get a few people that don't play anymore to jump in and play, and in fact they are all into the game again and are still playing so far.
Other than this, I don't know what else to say to you. I was lucky to have been elected in my first week of trying. The key is to be persistent no matter how much people may get annoyed with it. Even if it takes a couple weeks it's worth it to have a mayor that plays the game to be able to make important changes to the city.
Good luck to you!

Thanks for the input. This was really just much easier than I expected it would be. Of the 88 citizens in our city, 60 voted so far. Can't beat that kind of response with a gaffy stick. I guess I just underestimate the level of activity in our city, something I'm quite grateful for. I mean, who ever heard of that active a city on TALUS. /laugh
It also helped that 5-10 people would spam our city chat channel with annoying messages to vote 23/7 ("Vote now or you have to French kiss Cinu," the ugliest female wookiee ever rolled). We threatened to keep it up till the new mayor got the majority and here we did it three days to spare.
So I guess on Sunday, we'll have a new mayor and then the old mayor can found our satellite research outpost. /cheer

There's no problem of getting the message out to the citizens in my case. With the Mayor still playing, he sends out an email every other day telling the citizens to vote for me, unfortunately, so many are just.. inactive.
But keeping a tally on things seems like it will be a necessity... even offering credits...

I'm having the same issue. The city I'm trying to take over is a Level 1, and most of the current citizens are inactive so I can't get them to vote for me.
Here's my question. I know I would have no problem destroying the current city hall and dropping a new one immediately. Nobody would really care because we're not losing any levels.
Edit: Just read the FAQ. City Halls can only be destroyed, not redeeded.

How about this question. If I destroy a city hall and place a new one in the same exact situation to make it happen quicker, does everyone who was originally a citizen need to re-declare and re-vote?
