I'm just curious to know how other politicians grow there cities! There's got to be better ways than spamming in Coronet!

How do you do it?

I would *never* EVER spam in Coronet, etc. for citizens. My *personal* thoughts are that it is tacky and gains you nothing but a name on the list with no real commitment. As far as reliability, I rate that kind of influx just a step above cross-server citizen trades.

That aside, I've never had to "recruit" for my city. Perhaps Kor Spera is the exception, but we've never been in any danger of loosing rank or not having enough citizens. We also didn't focus on gaining rank, though, so much as we did on gaining active citizens. For us, it has always been about quality over quantity. We've always had people come to us. It was several months before we grew to Rank 4, but after a year we have a 90%+ active rate among our 75 citizens. Our goal was to create a community and not a shuttleport.

We're a role-playing city, and we require all citizens to be part of our role-playing guild as well. In that process, we have a loose system for screening potential new members. It can take anywhere from a few days to a week or more to join us, which helps to find those who truly want to join us and stick it out. A potential member is extended many of the same courtesies of those in our guild, although we're generally helpful to anyone who asks even if they're in another guild and have no intentions of joining our city.

So my advice is to be selective, decide what you want your city to be (i.e. what makes you unique), use your server forum and list your city and information and don't be in a hurry to level. Location has some impact, but it is not the main factor; what you sacrifice in convenience you can make up for in uniqueness many times.

This is not the only way by far, and there have been successful cities using all kinds of methods. Hearing other people's tips will be nice.

We grow our city by just waiting. As our guild gets members, every member is asked to join the city. Also we seem to have a lot of people give me tells asking to place a workshop because we are a research center. We also just get a lot of random people wanting to live in our city because we have a great layout. People really want to be apart of something that has had a lot of effort put into it and looks extremely nice. Having nice city parks (ours are basicly collections of several gardens, fountains/firepits, and lights) help a lot and also having every decoration in the city customed named just makes people feel like its a "real" city and wants to be apart of it. We have been a city for prolly 7 months (ish) and never been in risk of dropping below city, and are on a steady path to reaching metro.

I have helped my city grow in several ways. I am a notorious spammer in Cnet for my shops so every once in a while i throw something in about seeing if people would want to live in my fine city. I also have one or two people spam at different places the same way, but only for like a few days. I also tend to get a lot of people joining my city because when they join any guild in town they have the option to live there or be on there own. Oddly enough people have sought me out looking to live in my town because of the location and the amount of battling that goes on there. Its a beautiful thing. I love it. Spamming is good and you do meet some really wonderful people doing it.

I had a good start in that alot of people from our previous disbanded guild left and once they new i had my own city were delighted to get back together again.

I never spam the city but find that as a helper i am always helping out new players and i have an email i sent myself about our city and goals etc and when they are grateful for the help i have given them i ask if its okay to forward the email about my city to them. I would never send emails without that persons permission.

I then tend to find that within 3-4 days 75% of the new players i have helped email me and wish to join as we have alot of experience in our little city and we pride ourself of taking a newbie who does not know the most basic stuff and helping them develop into a good player.

I was so proud last night as i left our shopping mall to see 4 of the new players who have joined the city (all at different times and they didnt know each other) having a laugh and joking around together and this makes all the hastle and bugs seem worthwhile to me.

I prefer to use a high grade fertilizer. They make some very good stuff on Inta Minor. Then you have to make sure you get plenty of water. This can be a problem on planets like Lok and Tatooine.
