Thread: Cities and Faction bases
i have 2 questions, first can you have a faction base inside city limits? And if not if someone places a faction base near your city while it's still level one can the city not grow because the base is in the way?

As to your first question, can a faction base be in the city. Answer is yes. I am the Mayor of a city on Dantooine, Sylla server, and we now have a base we set up within the city limits. Actually this is NOT a desireable thing. One it takes up a heck of alot of valuable city space (lots), and two it is now where I really wanted to place cloning or Shuttle port.
A word to all Mayors out there. If you are going to place faction bases around your city. PLACE THEM WELL OUTSIDE CITY LIMITS AND FUTURE CITY LIMITS. 500m out is a good distance. Our cities bases were placed very early on, without me being consulted. As a result the city master plan is having to be revised. It was not my Citizens fault, I was out of town for a few days and unreachable.
This is just something to keep in mind. As too an opposing faction being able to place base outside your city. I do not know, or what would happed if base ended up inside your city after expansion.

Please if you do not mind, Would you please post the location of your city. I am on the Scylla server, and would like to create a character (Weldon) will be it's name, so that I can view your cities arrangement. We are also an Imperial city, and currently have 5 faction bases and a field hospital. We got off to a late start, so this week we should reach lvl 3 (township). I would like to meet you and take a tour of your city if possible. Sounds like you have a very good layout. We are somewhat constrained by geography being located in a hilly area of Dantooine.

We will have two bases in our city on Lok (Radiant server). We already have one. Yes, they take up space but with good planning they can fit in nicely. One thing to remember... they have a square footprint when trying to place them, but expands to a larger round "real" footprint once placed. This extra round portion can actually overlap into other structures. This can be very handy in "absorbing" some of the large base area, but is also dangerous. Once the overlapping building is uprooted, you cannot place one back down if the base's round footprint is in the way.
The smallest base for Imps has a 9 block x 9 block square footprint and expands to a 15-16block diameter circle. I am not sure what the larger bases' square footprint is, but the round footprint is identical. (Imperial Forward Base is the same final round area as a Detachment HQ).
Hope this helps. Click my "Lost Mesa" link below for a planned layout of our city at Rank 3.
