last week in politics

starting this week I'll be reporting news from Sandbox instead of New Unity. Sandbox is the city I set up for the alpha testers, since we never got a sandbox to test in I'm hoping to get some skills (from the devs) so we can have stuff like trainers and mission terminals for people to test with, on top of the frog we placed in the city hall (courtesy of kstarfire)

we started Sandbox with little problems, however the lairs that spawn makes it hard to place houses at times... especially when the critters are high level and we can't just clear the lairs out. a few days ago there were level 448 dune lizards hanging around that hit someone for 26k, so I stick close to the city hall dispite all that trouble, we now have over 35 people in the (rank 1) city. I'm hoping that I can get the devs to bump the city level up a bit early so we can fit more folks in. I turn on zoning whenever I'm not around, but the area is so small that folks build right outside of the city.

so how's your city this week?

update: after talking to a QA, I now have master politician all I have to do is wait a few days for the city to advance to rank 3 so we can turn on various specializations and test them

'tis been a Good week in Emerald Cove.

Currently their seems to be a large influx of new/seasoned players from other servers joining us and with the School/College break in the UK I am assumming alot of new players just started too.

In the past week we started off be losing 5 players in one day, dropping to 14 citizens- poached by another city who through them the 'We got a shuttleport' card. Then all but a few of the remaining citizens decided we should all start recruiting and looking for new citizens. We have ended up with another 20 new citizens since and people are starting to ASK if they can move in, very nice.

As we are on Corellia, many other 'new' mayors have commented that we will never progress past 'Outpost'. However, the planet hasn't reached it's cap yet. Will shall see on friday when we will move up to Rank 3. Ahhh Cloning centre, the closet one currently is 4000m away and of course there is no shuttle.

Cerberus on Intrepid is doing fine. Active citizens in the city, stocked vendors, tourism. Only 2 citizens for a return to metropolis status from a time before I was mayor.

Any word on player event items becoming easier to place? Having a lottery droid way out in the far edge of the city is about worthless. Placing a pavilion no where is worthless, what city has a huge hole undeveloped except on the fringe?

Where is my industrial society perk darn it!

Pex mentioned that they were looking into getting rid of the footprints for player event perks in city zones. I doubt we'll see anything before ROTW, but it's on the plate at least:

"We're working on a fix that will eliminate the footprint of various perks when placed within a city zone. Such a fix will probably have to wait until after the expansion goes live, but it is something I want to see happen as quickly as possible.

That's from the Player Event Discussion thread over in the Events forum.

Daden, Dantooine on Bria is a small, new community with only 15 citizens at this point. We were founded as a guild community a few weeks ago but had several drop outs and a change of focus since that time. To top it off, the original mayor and her fiance, the driving forces behind the creation of the guild / city, announced they had to take an extended leave of absence from the game and turned the keys to the city and guild over to me. I got the job because I was either 1) one of the original citizens, 2) the only one ready, willing, and able to help, or 3) the only one on-line at the time of their announcement.

Never having been a mayor before, I am now scrambling to figure out what to do. I started by browsing this forum and have picked up several useful tips (thanks :smileyhappy. My goal is to build the community up before they come back, whenever that is, but I think I am in for a long haul.

My primary concern is financing, as I have only been on this server since February, am an entertainer, and am fairly poor. I don't have the funds to offerperks to entice new citizens and we don't have much of a tax base. I don't have an architect, as the original mayor was ours.

In any case, I have some hurdles to clear. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

League City, Dantooine (Intrepid)

We are doing great, no dropoff in citizenship and I am incredibly impressed at how stable the city has become. It is a turning point for our city in the next few weeks, the short term plans have been accomplished and the long term plans are in development. Working on forming a city council and trying to get any citizen that wishes to be, more involved with the city. The future looks good, but will take a lot of work.

Well I just took over Free Trade City on Naboo (Flurry). Have 49 citizens, we are 1km south of Theed. Biggest problem is that the city has no layout, NONE.Not much I can do about that atm, oh well. I'm trying to find out how many active citizens I have and looking for a decent spot to drop a Guild Hall for a new mall. My forst order of business is to attrack more crafters merchants to the city to take advantage of the location.

Storm Haven, Naboo, Wanderhome

I took over the town about 6 weeks ago. Been trying to be pretty active.

We are concerned about the character purge threat as about half the city was not active when I took over. My push has been to get folks to move in. I've gotten two folks to move in personally.

We have 3 guilds in the City. One of them is the founder of the city I believe and all of their members live in the city and have since before I moved there. Of the other two guilds I've seen several of their members moving in.

As of today when I logged off we were 1 citizen away from Metropolis with two others commited to moving in.

The Storm Haven mall is doing good. Since becomeing mayor I've gotten a 12 point Droid Engineer to move in, an 11 point Weaponsmith ( who I was told today became a 12 point one ) and a smuggler to move in. Since taking control of the mall last week I've also added an aspiring tailor.

The city survives on donations primarily. The three guilds have a deal worked out to where each one donates 200k to the city treasury weekly ( though they generally do it in month sums ). The remainder I've been donating to the city myself ( its only like 50k ). We have a 100 credit shuttle tax and a 5% garage tax and thats it. ( The deal was worked out between the guilds when I became mayor abolished the sales tax cause we all know its bugged and instituted a 2000 credit income tax, I withdrew the tax once they worked out the deal and initial funds where deposited )

All in all things are looking up. Sadly our current medical facility is condemned. That's one reason I took over the mall so that an active doctor could place a medical center. I'm not sure the architect has made it for him yet and I need to get with them both and discuss it.

Did I mention that the City Management Terminals are broken still/again?

Yeah. Apparently you don't even need to select an option, just accessing the terminal radial menu and exitting is enough to get the option #2 menu to go away for a few minutes.

Donations to the city continue to support it. 2 generous individuals donated a total of 6 million!

XP wise I got 25 votes (out of 75 citizens lol) last cycle and trained up to Politician 3-2-2-1 now.
