How many can you place? Can you place enough to light up the city? Or only enough to make it look like you tried to light up the city...

Varies with town size.

You can't light the whole city, and just give up on lighting it with lamps on every corner.

Light highly used areas: cantina, shops... and make it look nice just off the shuttle for those arriving at night

Go to your cityhall control terminal & check the tab for city advancement I believe it is called. FInd the decorations total limit allowed for your city.

You can go crazy placing street lights till you hit max for your current city size but you wont have any statues or fountains unless they are gardens. I personally like to place lights at the front of important structures & maybe some in a garden & let it go at that.

The streetlamps have a very limited range. They are good for creating atmosphere around buildings and fountains and such. THey don't provide enough light to make your city look like the Las Vegas strip.

I think you can make a very nice display with street lights and braziers and the like. You can't light the whole place up but you can create an area in your town that draws pepole to come look at it when they are passing by.

Some people like to use colored streetlamps to light up fountains.

So I guess planning out more than one boulevard is futile if I want lights hehe.

For a level 5 metro...the cap is 50 decorations.

Decorations include Streetlamps, gardens, and fountains.

Actually Gardens are a different category. I think you meant Streetlamps, STATUES, and fountains.
