Thread: AWOL Mayors and What Happens to the City?

Greetings,
At one time I was the mayor of a city, and so people tend to ask me questions about the politician class and how cities work. I've actually been presented with a question I don't know the answer to for sure:
A city on my server has a small problem - the mayor has not been able to log in at all due to being hospitalized in RL, and no one has their account information to log them in. While they are trying to trade out mayors, it usually takes them about four or five weeks to do so due to city size and lax players.
The question that was asked was "What happens to the city if the mayor never logs on?" - I assume that their citizens are worried that the '6 week rule' applies to mayors, even though I've explained several times that the code is not active. However, while I know that code is not working, is there a certain time limit before a city will vanish because the mayor has not logged in? I don't believe there is but before I give a hard answer to their questions, I wanted to see if I could get some information on the matter.

Our mayor was banned, and it still kept them as mayor. We still had to vote her out to get the city back

I thought that the city would stay there.
Honestly, I think they are going to end up coming to the city I currently live in - even if they do get the new mayor in, he's novice politician and can't do much to the city. And if they are reactivating the 6 week rule, then the city will drop down to nothing - the main houses in area for an Outpost and village are all people who no longer play.
