Thread: FS Politician?

Hi there!

My name is Jantara and I am the mayor of Seaview, Naboo on the infinity server and have been for the last couple of months. I've been thinking ahead to publish 10 andhave to wonder what would happen if i chose to participate in the Force Sensitive quests (I'm a themepark freak and can't resist a good quest, so I know I probably will). From what I've read, when you do the quests, that specific character will be FS, not the new slot that you have openned up. This would make me a FS mayor. I've also read that you must eventually surrender all your "normal" profession skill points as you progress up the jedi ranks. So I see a problem, how does a force sensitive mayor retire from service to answer the call?

I see a couple of options:

-remove skill point usage from the politician tree (possibly make us buy politician skill boxes with AP)?

-reduce skill point usage to 1 point per box (not entirely sure that will help as I havent completely explored the calculations)

-Allow politicians to petition to make their new slot the FS one.

I guess I puzzle over this for a variety of reasons. For continutity sake, I dont think anyone can accept a jedi mayor regardless of the state of SWG's adherance to the storyline. For imerssion sake, I wouldnt like to think that all of this future content is blocked to me because I am a politician (I am Seaview's 2nd mayor and now the ordeal you go through in order to replace a mayor). For fairness sake, I can see that for RP reasons we can't have a jedi politician (or can we . . .), but am I really going to have to make the choice between jedi or politician? *if that last question becomes true, what system can we put in place to facilitate the progression from politician to jedi.

I may be pondering this, but as much as i'm interested in the quests, I do not believe I would be prepared to resign mayor so that I could grow as a jedi (Assuming I could even complete them in this life time). I would love to see some relief on the skill points. I keep my politician at 2221 and train up a level from my banked xp if i need to do something from the advanced boxes. I also never bothered to master it due to no benifits to me or the city (well i could get a badge I suppose).

I know one answer I will here from the powers that be is that I am free to do the quests with my new unlocked slots so that I may use it as my FS character. I havent any idea how difficult and the time commitment involved yet for these missions, but i'd hate to think that I would be required to complete these quests twice just because I've already accepted the burden of honor as a mayor of a city (Should hit Metropolis after the next update).

I hope that you can get the gist of what I'm saying here in this post. I'm an avid reader of the forums, but I'm one of Blackman's few that isnt very vocal

Thank You!

The problem isnt so much being a FS Mayor, its more to do with the fact that if you open a FS character as your 2nd, that character can't then take over from you as being the Mayor. The way I understand it, your original character stays as is, its your 2nd character that is FS (I could be wrong though).

The devs still see the profession as more of an "office" than a profession (which is why it was never included in the FS grind pre-patch 10), hence why all of us have to make decisions all the time on the best skill point usage whilst maintaining a modicum of control over the cities that we run.

Under the new system , when you undertake the FS quests, each FS box, is about 1 skill point , but to get to Jedi Initiate, you need to get 6 trees (4 boxes in a tree), this

will still leave you with plenty of leeway on your current template (assuming you want to keep Politician), although you would most likely have to start dropping boxes if

you have youre full 250 pt skill used already

Once you get Initiate, beginner boxes are 8 Skill points, and so this is where most people will lose the most in their old template, and you will only need to drop boxes if

you wish to learn a new skill .. Now you can be just FS, but thre is no real benefit to go FS if youre politician (no perks), the FS skills are mainly for Range / melee

combat and crafting profs, couple to driving / loot, an such forth, but theyre not worth it if youre going to take jedi full time,

I am 96.35682% sure that I have read the changes for publish 10 correctly and that after you complete the Force senstive quests, the character you completed them with becomes force sensitive, but you still unlock a 2nd character slot on the server. So a poltician will need to do the quests twice because the devs have stated that you can also do the force sensitive quests with your new character slot if you wish that one to be force sensitive as well.

Are my concerns baseless here? As a politician should I not desire to complete these quests and take advantage of the new game content? Are there any other politicians out there that have even a hint of curiosity of unlocking their force sensitive slot? I was never a holo-grinder, but each time I mastered a profession while trying to find my niche in the game, I secretly wished I'd unlock. Holo-grinding almost killed Seaview so we dont have a lot of love for them, however as my alt is an MBH, I have had jedi encounters which has made me curious. The whole point is moot if i would suck it up and utilize my alt to do the FS quests, but I am loathe to drop MBH as I am very stubbornly hoping that his day will come.

I appreciate the Politician community's feedback, please let me know how you feel about my thoughts.

Thank You!

Thanks for the info on the skillpoint costs Gazimus! Your post does bring out a concern of mine and its mostly for continuity/RP reasons. Should a jedi be mayor? Will the community accept this addition to the continuity problems? I only ask becuase I am of the opinion that a jedi in the game right now shouldn't be visible and at the very least have had a Singing Mountain Clan or NS for a mother

Being a FS politician wouldnt mean much in the way of being a better politician, so I know that I could potentially take the FS boxes to advance my character as a melee fighter (which he is all he is besides politician). So am i hearing that in the world of politician, that once I've become FS, that I stop after the beginner boxes and remain sensitive, but basically out of the jedi ranks. I can accept a "closet" FS politician.

Your post helps me make decisions, but it still sounds like if I wish to embark on the jedi trials, I will need to do the FS quests with the new slot thats open. This does cause some irritation, because if I manage to complete the quests with my limitted play time, I am probably going to feel irritated doing it the second time around.

Thanks for your thoughts Gazimus!

yeah I'm doing the trials with both my chars.

One is with my poli to get my other char... then my other char will be a battle fortress with Jedi skills but maintaining a carbiner or pistoleer or something as his main prof.
