In mid-October, we will be doing a “character purge” of the system. This will be the big deletion of stale characters and items and it will affect all Galaxies. What this means is that any account that has been cancelled for longer than 6 months will be deleted from the database.Character names, items, lots and everything the character possessed will be permanently deleted. The Character Purge is being done to free up names and game space for incoming and existing players.

After the mid-October purge, we will be performing a character once every month. We will announce all purges at least a week prior.

Well this is both a great and horrible thing for us politicians. It has the obvious pro's of making homes and nonexistent citizens disappear potentially opening up some shuttle slots and just opening up some land however it also has some big cons unless the devs address them.

First one pretty much can't be avoided but sadly anyone in the military on extended service is more or less screwed but beyond that, how do you know if your citizen is an inactive? Now true it takes 6 months and hopefully you'd realize it by then but I know there are citizens that play at different times then me. And even if they are on at the same time, if they aren't in the city then I don't know it. I really would prefer not having toadd 70 more people on my friends list just to know if they are actives or not. So basically when this is implementedit'll bevery easy for a few citizens to just disappearwithout anyprior warning.

I don't know how simple this would be, but the most obvious way to fix this potential problem for politicians is to send out a mail about 2 weeks to a month in advance of the player getting deleted. Now like I said this is the most obvious way to help us out but those are normally also the most unrealistic so with that said anyone else with a better idea please post it I'm hoping this issue has been brought up to the devs too, or at least will be since Pappi is reading this (yes I am a stalker) so we can hopefully get some heads up before our city rank is in jeapordy as well as ourcityscapes.

Please tell me that the Mayor will get notification of player names that have been rermoved similar to a normal player removing their citizenship .....

Easiest way I can think of is to purge as planned but leave the citizens on the city roster for a further 2 weeks. That way as mayor you would get auto mail saying someone left your city but it would be two weeks later before the game code removed him from the roster altogether.

What I do to keep track of citizens:

I have 2 categories in my Friends list. Rauha and Rauha*.

I bank tipped each citizen in the city 1 cr, and then waited. As each email saying they logged in and received my credit came to me, I changed their group list from "Rauha" to "Rauha*". Soon I had a list of actives and a list of inactives.

If I haven't seen someone for a while, I'lltake away their * and bank tip them 1 cr again. They only get the * back when they receive the credit.

This is how I know of about 75-77 citizens, I have about 60+ actives, currently. Though..people have been surprising me lately by coming back to the game from months-long absences.

Hope this idea helps!

correct me if I read it wrong, but I thought the purge would only happen to accounts that have been cancelled for 6 months or longer, not players that have account currently paid for and just have not logged in for 6 months. In pride we have a few in the military and and my deal with them is, if they leave for service, I will upkeep their buildings while they are away. If they keep their accounts active then their will be no loss to them or the city.

The purge is only happening to character who's accounts have been cancelled for six or more months at the time of the purge.

This means that if someone is still paying for the account, or have paid for at least one months worth of play in the last six months, then the character is fine and will stay.

It doesn't matter whether the character has been played in the last six months, just whether the account has been paid for.

True, but that doesn't mean it won't effect us. Yes hopefully you can keep in touch with enough people or do the bank tip thing like our master decorator mentioned to find out if they are active or inactive, not necessarily cancelled however. Of course if they're gone for 5 months and you haven't gotten the 1 cred escrow message I'd call it a safe bet but why can't we get a system in the game so we don't have to go through that and bork up our friends list to an extent.

Also, good to hear you'repestering 'empappi.

Yeah, there's no way to know why they're inactive, merely that they are or aren't.

I've been surprised in the past when I run into someone on AIM that I've played with for a while, and they tell me "Oh yeah, I cancelled my account a month ago". People just don't really tell ya when they're gonna stop paying for an account sometimes.

there is only one small thing i'd like to see put in before this happens, just a small flag next to the name on the citizenship report that says pretty much 'yes or no' if the player has been on sometime during the purge time frame to keep from being deleted. I'm not interested in seeing when they logged on or anything like that, just if they logged on. Would really help in planning to fill holes that will be left in the city afterward.

Just so you guys know, the purge only effects accounts that have not been paying members for 6 months. If someone is on leave, but has SWG still billed to their credit card they will be fine
