I read about and couldn't find any recent threads about this or an answer in the FAQs but I mayor a city that is supposed to be neutral but it shows up as rebels to rebels which I am. Now we are getting factions looking around our city thinking a rebel guild is moving in on the planet. Is there a way to remove the factional alignment or is the only way is that the mayor is not-aligned? Appreciate a response from someone with experience on this matter, thanks.

the only way you can un-align a structure you place would be to dig it up and go neutral (order doesn't matter), then place it again at the end.

From what I have seen it seems the alignment of the city is determined by the residents. If a city has 100 residents, and 60 are rebel it gets aligned rebel. Same situation of there were 60 imperials. The city would show up as imperial.
Only way for a city to truly be neutral is to have more neutral players than those that are aligned with either faction.

It's the same way with harvesters. If you're rebel, and place a harv, it acquires a rebel sign on it next to the name, vice versa for imperial.
So, if your mayor is factionally aligned and places gardens (which require a deed) it also acquires that alignment.

Actually I think the gardens switch based on alignment of the city itself.
I wonder if there is a way to test this. My mayor character is only a private so I could surrender, and then re-join the rebellion I suppose.

Well that stinks, I doubt I can get the mayor to surrender her high rank. I wonder if you can surrender, then place before the hour is up before you truly lose your factional alignment so you can regain your rank. I know it isn't a majority thing since rebels are in the minority in our city. Please let me know what you find out. Thanks.

As far as I understood it a city's factional alignment is drawn solely from the mayor's faction - I could be wrong though.

When we place our city originaly on Theed the mayor was neutral and hence so was the city, when we decided to move to Lok the mayor had since gone up the Imperial ranks and our second city ended up being Imperial.
However I can't remeber if the first city changed at all during the transition and the original mayor going Imperial.
