This is a topic I’m surprised isn’t talked about more on here but how do you handle your recruitment.

Our city was founded on a group that had played with each other in many other online games so was fairly easy to look after. But now we have to look at recruiting to keep the shuttle port (being on the south side of Lok it’s important).

So far we have just looked out for new players and accosted them at the starport when they first land (usually Tat), we kit them out with a Speeder and a medium house, sometimes other bits and pieces depending on what they are doing and what they need.

Now this can either go two ways they either are really grateful for the assistance and form an eternal bond with the guild and city or they find there feet and decide they want to do there own thing which we don’t mind as we still get the warm fuzzy feely of helping someone and giving something back to the community.

But is this the same for everyone? I would really like to bring in other guilds, crafters and RP but our current methods don’t really cover these.

I have found that word of mouth often helps a lot too. Mos Wroshyr currently has some 120+ citizens.

Many have heard of us from friends etc, and asked to settle here.

We also have 4 large guilds resident in the city, and another one has asked to join us.

Architecture is key also. If someone comes to your city, and likes the look of it, then they will be more inclined to settle there, you only need to see the layout of Aartan Ridge as an example of a well thought out and planned city.

Yes I have seen it and it is very well laid out, I have been putting a lot of effort into sorting ours out after I took over but I feel one of our problems maybe becuasewe are kinda off the beaten track being on Lok and so it is an extra challenge to attract people to the city.

One of my projects at the moment is to improve our shop and crafters as I believe that is a great pull for a city but if your main are for new citizens is new players there is a long turn around period before you will see any results.

Still this is what makes politician exciting and challenging for me.

Rauha, Naboo (Starsider) is also in the process of trying to attract people to the city. I've upped the city decorations, revamped some of the commercial district layout, and moved stuff around to appeal to recruiting people.

I've found that word of mouth, friendliness, politeness and a good attitude help. People come to our city to shop, and a good healthy greeting, a polite inquiry into meeting their needs and a fond farewell go a long way to having people look at your city in a good light. I've also started advertising on the forums for RP guilds and the like, in the hopes of attracting a good RP guild to come and settle there.

We're pretty secure with our citizenship (60+ actives outta 75 citizens), but we'd like to grow a bit more and also liven things up with some good RP guild action. It's always fun to meet new people, and I feel it's my job as mayor to also help them in their SWG careers in any way that I can. Our general policy right now is the offer of a small naboo house (if they don't have one for Naboo or don't have one period) plus one month's free maint on it. That at least gives them time to get settled in, work out what they want to do and get started on their stuff, and seems to have worked so far. Sure, you get people who only stay a couple of weeks and move away, or stop playing the game, but for the ones who have stayed and continue to play in our city, the rewards are much greater than the 30k spent on the house and free maint
