i want to resign so i can become mayor of a new city and so a guildie can become mayor of the existing city, seems i cant resign, or am i missing something? is there a typed command perhaps?
my election cycle has just ended so it looks like i need to wait 3 weeks to be voted out, then i have to run for mayor in the new city taking another 3 weeks, so by the look of it i have to wait 6 WEEKS to become mayor of our sister city

There is no option to resign. You must be voted out of office.
Try not registering at your current cityand having your guildie register there to get votes. Then go and declare residency in the new city and see if it will let you register to run there...

I totally agree that you should be able to resign from your office if you want to. I am in a similar situation and will now have to wait 4 weeks to become mayor of the other city. My only other option is to destroy the city entirely but as there are players that wish to take it over I doubt that they would be very happy if I did that.
If another player is already running for mayor I should be able to resign, period. The current in game system assumes that everyone is logging in every day but as we all know this is not a reality. There are many players that do not log in for weeks at a time.
I suggest two things:
Mayors should be able to call an election at any time and should be able to set the length of the campaign. The minimum timetable could be 1 week and the maximum time could be 3 weeks. If the mayor does not call an election the regularly scheduled elections could take place every 3 weeks.
If a mayor wishes to resign he/she should be able to do so, and an election should be immediatly called and all citizens should be informed that the mayor is resigning. The term of this election could be 1 week, as to get a new mayor into the position quickly.
I was told in game by a CSR that if all citizens in a player city vote for another canditate within a one week period that the mayorship will be immediatly changed, however, if this is true it is simply unfair that the only way to exit the mayorship in a timely fashion is to rely on other players that may or may not log into the game. underthecurrent rules if even one citizen is away on vacation in real life then the mayor of a city is stuck for the full 3 week term. Therefore, I will now have to wait for 3 weeks and miss the election in the other city that I am being ASKED to run in. This will have the effect that that city will have to wait for another 3 weeks as well to have me run in their election. This after I have already found a replacement for myself and that player is already leading in votes and will win the election easily since I am not running. If you do the math this forces the other city to wait 3 weeks and myself to wait 4 weeks before I can become mayor of the other city.
