All,
I've been reading this forum for about 7 weeks now, since I took on Politician for my City, Surebleak of Lok of Ahazi.
Honestly, to my perspective there are some *major* issues with Politician that I don't see a lot of chatter on. I've poured over most of the information available and would welcome your feedback and consideration.
Issues:
Revenue Stream Accounting: So near as I can tell, there is *no* interface or information available for identifying credit flow INTO the City Treasury. I'm aware of some of the spreadsheet offline tools available for estimating the City's income - but there needs to be an online tool. Even if it's an e-mail every time there is a revenue event. Ugly, but would be effective. Specific example: We finally deployed a vehicle Garage on Lok, and from Nym's Starport - a /find garage will give us as the closest hit at about 1100 meters out. Potentially this could be a significant moneymaker for our city, so the tax rate on the garage is set at 30%. THERE IS NO ABSOLUTE WAY TO TELL WHAT INCOME THE GARAGE IS GENERATING. If some of the citizens actually respond to my most recent shakedown for credits, I have no way to differentiate that revenue from deposits they make, unless they tell me. Analyzing income is 100% educated guesswork.
Revenue Streams: OK, as I understand it, Sales Tax doesn't work. Why has this not been addressed? Potentially this is the single biggest revenue opportunity in my city. Of course, that'd be hard to tell even if it did work, as there is no revenue stream accounting (see above) Trainers and Mission Terminals would be very nice to generate a percentage of revenue as well. We also have 54 structures in our city - granted, I *can* do the math on this one, but it's laborious - it would be nice to see the Property Tax Revenue being generated as well.
The Accursed Spynet Operative: For some reason, I have a significant number of Bounty Hunters in my city. They want a Spynet Operative to go with their Bounty Hunter Terminal. I've told them of the Spynet Operatives allegedly in Nym's - they still beg on a frequent and routine basis, for a Spynet Operative.
Those are the main issues. There are other things that are more of nuisance issues (why can't I rotate any place objects - mission terminals for example) and playstyle city management issues (35 people to register the city name?)
Anyways, I don't mean for this to be a rant, but I spent an hour and a half in a spirited debate with my guild over city finances last night and am seeking to make Politician lives a little more enjoyable.
Thanks,
Steelraven of Ahazi

these issues have been noted in my various reports before, and are constantly revisited. unfortunately I have no control over what the devs fixes. rest assure that these (especially the issues related to finances) are on the top of our "bug the devs" list

Huzzah!
Yeah, you hit most of the problems.
Facing of mission terminals: they're gonna face the way you are facing when you drop them. Stand on the spot and try the 1 or 3 key on the number pad to rotate y'rself. Then drop the terminal. Worked for me.

Also remember to use your overhead map to line yourself up. The pixel line made by homes and gardens makes for a good straight edge. I had to use pixels like this in decor way back when until I learned the seat trick from Zel, too bad you can't drop a chair in public.

As Pappi said, these issues have been raised over and over again in the past with many potential solutions being passed. It makes you thankful that the devs are just devs and not SoE accountants as they clearly have little understanding of what information we need to run a city - even if it is only a game! I am confident that the devs are aware of our issues but aren't investing the dev time in resolving them because we are a small percentage of the player base and perhaps we aren't shouting as loudly as we could be. *shrug*
