I imagine this gets asked often but I've been unable to find an answer in the forum so apologies if this has been asked before.

Myself and a group of friends have had our houses in a location for about 3 months and in the last month a player city has appeared nearby. I'm curious what happens if/when the city boundary reaches us. Are we forced to become part of the city and accept its taxes or can we refuse?

Cheers

If the boundary of the city expands to include your houses (and whatever other structures you have up: factories, harvesters) , then yes, you will be subject to taxes. If you haven't declared in your house, it will just be whatever % of property tax (you can't be taxed the citizen tax if you haven't declared residency).

You can not refuse to pay them. If you don't want to be part of the city, your only option is to move.
