Thread: This week in politics 4/18/04
New Unity, Naboo, Test Center
It's been a while since I've posted in one of these threads... In fact, I'm not sure if I have at all O.o As the mayor of a fairly large city (105+ as I last checked), I've been trying to keep up with the politician issues, although the problems I've encountered seems to be mostly different from "live server" mayors. I haven't had to worry about the unevenness of terrain (kudos to Vandessa, our ex-mayor, for situating our city in such a lovely spot), lack of active citizens (being a PA-affiliated city certainly helped, and that each acct can have 3 chars on here), or an empty treasury (With our 5% sales/10% property/100 shuttle tax and weekly city hunts, I've gradually buffered our treasury with enough money for about 2 months, even though sale prices are lower compared to many other cities or servers.) I've left the city specialization to manufacturing, since I've heard from other mayors that research is broken and cost more money. Our last city update cost 421k, not bad
Our citizen count is still relatively stable, mainly due to our city's screening process for citizens. Most "lost citizen" email I get are from active citizens that are playing around with their houses and had to redeclare. Some might say our rules are a bit harsh, but there's a large turnover of players that's characteristic to our server. A lot of people who visit my city wants to place a house, but either rejects and/or yells at me when I inform them that they'll have to buy their own house, pay their own maintainance, and have recommendations from existing citizens. We want people that join our city to be part of our community, instead of just some house owner who wants to live in a player city (I don't discourage people placing houses outside of city borders, since I wouldn't have to worry about their inactivity affecting the city)
I've recently initiated 4 more militia members (plus some of their alts) due to complains about existing militia members not being online enough. I've had some people bothering me about letting them into the militia, but with our strict citizenship requirements and my observation of these people they won't likely be initiated any time soon if ever. My citizens are satsified with these choices (I talked it over with our ex-mayor and recruiting guild officer before the announcements)
A guildmate is trying to start a sister city on Dantooine, however he seems to have problems getting enough people to join. I'm hesitant on asking my citizens to move to dant, mainly because of our population. We have a 20 people buffer atm, but the server tends to induce the strangest bugs and I would like to have my citizens here in case something strange happens.
Prehaps I'll come upwith more stuff to update later... keep up your spirits while our corr is not here

City of Rauha, Naboo (Starsider)
This week is fairly uneventful. We have a wedding taking place in our Club Supern0va, the first of its kind to our town, in that we rented out the place to non-residents to have their wedding. I'm hoping it goes well, and if so, it might mean some new business to the diligent folks who run the club. Afterwards for the reception there will be Star Wars Jeopardy, with questions relating to the movies and the EU. If you want to come watch, feel free. We're about 2km N of Keren and shuttling is also available.
Other than that, we're also trying to coordinate some town-wide activities, or at least activities incorporating various individuals, such as a Corvette Raiding party, or a Rancor Hunting group. We're also considering a city band of musicians and dancers - we'll see how that flies.
GCW activity in our town has decreased, thanks to a recent reduction in GCW activity in our area in general. A large Imperial guild has invaded the Radiant galaxy from ours, so PvP in our area where the guild is stationed is pretty slow, which is good news for our peace-loving city. We're hoping it stays peaceful.
Well, it was another fun week in Temenos Island (Naboo, Kettemoor)
We have a mystery in our city. A body was found, but it disappeared and a resident of Temenos was seen leaving the scene [insert dramatic gasp sound here]. Our militia is finding clues and trying to unravel this twisted mystery.
Meanwhile, our treasury still sits nicely padded, our people seem to be generally happy, and we are looking forward to Wednesday night. "What is Wednesday night?" you ask.
"Ah," says I, "it is our weekly 'Stay-At-Home' night, where as many people from our city as can, stay home and roleplay within our city." That's right, we all stay home (not in our houses, mind you) and chat amongst ourselves, talk to and welcome visitors and newcomers, and just generally mill about town to give it that lived-in, friendly feel we all enjoy. We started these about 3 or 4 weeks ago and since then, the town has seen more life on a regular basis, It's done wonders for our citizens' roleplay experiences as well as our town.
We did have a BIG to-do earlier this month, a HUGE fair. We had people come from all over, including people make characters on our server just to go to the event. As a result, I am trying to pick up something Kypek started and have a mayor's meeting in my town to discuss monthly events like the one we had as well as regular mayoral summits on our server. Wish me luck!
Anyway, I would say nothing happened this week, but I'd be lying, cause lately, there's always something happening in TI.
