First and foremost, thanks to all of you for making a bunch of great posts regarding the politician trade in game. Learned from this forum than the holocron and the manual.

I am aologizing in advance should any of my comments offend anyone as I have some strong feelings about the trade as a whole as a result of being mayor

This are my concerns (I even have a suggested fix at the end)

1.) The mayoral race- Ran against the incumbent for over two and a half weeks in a city with 80 citizens. We figured it would be a shoe in as the incumbent mailed everyone in the city to vote for me not him as he wanted out (first sign that I was getting myself into something stinky here). Out of that 80 in the two and a half weeks, I got 29 votes than 22 votes (last 22 I did not get any XP for). Mayor wanted out, resigning citizenship did not help so what ended up happening is he took down the city hall. Boom, near metropolis became instant outpost (outhouse in some citizens minds). ION

2.) The XP accrual- Should be a way to get it faster and other than just by votes. XP given once per week makes a difficult profession as a whole even that much harder to do. Citizens screaming for structures and services but Mayor has to wait for city updates to learn anything!

3.) The city growth rate- We have phenominal recruiters in the city, they seem to pull new people out of a magic hat or travel pack and we can grow like nobodies business. The current one level per week thing needs to be improved if the city can actually meet teh citizen requirements for that level. I have been mayor in our metropolis sized outpost for week now, next level village and yes, thes profession is making me feel like a village person! Particulalry when we have people asking **edit** is going one- why are we stuck as we are when we are such a big city?

4.) The profession of politician as a whole- I think needs to be punted. Personally I think it should be an appointed thing- guy buys city hall, drops it- becomes mayor, no politician training as all abilities granted from day 1. Is voted out like normal etc. The profession does make the character any money as therir is no salary, its a skill point trap as its set up once you place a structure, u have no real use for that skill any more, and 92 points for an average tree to master is a lot of points! The trade does not allow you as a player to craft anything that you can sell either nor does it give you any edges in combat unless stronghols specialized and you can only use the perk within your own city- (woohoo).

THE FIXES

1.) Allow the incumbernt mayor to drop out of the race if more than one person in mayoral race. Saves the incumbent from tearing down the city hall to get out of the position and saving a decent city from becoming an outpost with 80 grumpy people in it.

2.) Grant XP for new citizens that join the city, granting of zoning rights for structures actually placed and whatever else is placed, trainers, terminals, overall city improvements. Allow you to collect as game progresses and then have the XP for votes at election time. mayors can progress in skill levels faster!

3.) Allow the city to grow as fast aas the number of citizens permit. Why penalize success? If a city can grow to metropolis size in a week, let it and get its due. People worked hard to get it that way! Dallas Texas grew fast in real life, no one said to Dallas, sorry have to stay outpost size for 300 years as London and Paris had too...Why not cap other professions too while at it? A year for a player to grow into Jedi seems appropriate, not, nor should it apply to a city!

4.) Make the profession an appointment like Militia, a new city hall can be purchased by anyone, placed and have thae above go on as it exists, mayor can still be voted in and out but no sacrifice of valuable skill points for a otherwise limited abilities tree. More rom for other players to try and run a city without giving up combat skills or crafting skills!

Mayors- if you get the same rants from your citizens, get them to write into SOE plus what we are all doing here. 10 mayors may not do a lot but every mayor and every citizen in that city screaming at SOE to make a change will get heard a lot faster and louder then us! Thats what I am encourageing my folks to do.

Strength of change for game stuff is a numbers game. if enough people scream loud enough and long enough, changehappens lot more quickly

/end rant

/dismount soapbox
