Hyguys,

First off, Iam not a mayor my self but i am trying to take a look at a problem that our mayor has talked about... and that is the email spam he gets.

I am in the process of writing a program that compiles emails saved using the /mailsave commandinto a XML data file for vendor sales tracking, purchases, bank tips... actualy, i got the alpha version of the mail parser working like a champ.

I was wondering if the Mayors would need something like this for mayor emails?? would it be something that mayors use?

I didn't even know there was such a command - guess I'll give it a try.

Your program sounds very interesting - do you thinkconsidered a 3rd party program andagainst SOE's policy to use ?

When will it be available for distribution ?

Since the program does not interact with the client at all... i don't think it would be against
any rules.

I am shooting for a public alpha in a few days. still working out the data parsing,it is all very command line driven at the moment. Still need to put a GUI front end on it

There is another /mailsave to XML program out there, but developemt seems to have stopped about3 months ago and it was not parsing data correctly for me.

You can find more information on my project here http://www.fraggershall.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5790 along with a sample XML

Hi there,

I don't know if you are doing this as a programming excercise, but there are already some parsers out there and a very comprehensive tool already available for vendors. I'd highly recommend you take a look at both of them before investing much more time in the project. Having said that, neither parse just the mayor mails at the moment so that may be something people are interested in.

I love ya Kyorlana, thanks.

I'll take a look at these. I dunno why the game just doesn't interface with an email client.

Maybe in the future.

I had already found both Tools.

The Merchant Buddy, is a nice one stoptool for merchants, and the SWG e-mail parser does more of what i am wanting to do.

but....

I really want to export to a XML file for easy portability to (insert program here). SWG Email-Parser was/is not parsing email correctly, and i cant find any recent information on it with in the past 3 months.

In addition to email>XML parsing.

I amwanting a "silent" mode, have the program sit in the taskbar waiting until a /savemail was done and haveit do it's thing with outme having to ask it to. Also, i will be adding abuiltin "Send as Email" option.

Also where the SWG email-parser seems to only be doing vendor emails.... as of right now i have mine doing the following.

Auctioner"

"Vendor Sale Complete"
"Vendor Item Purchased"
"Instant Sale Item Purchased"
"Auction Unsuccessful"

"Bank"

"Bank Transfer Complete..."
"Bank Transfer To..."

"City hall"

"City Income Tax Paid"

And .... i get a sick pleasure from writing code

This could be interesting when we get more mails about what happened in the city.

I wait for a message that I could get if someone pays money in the treasury, if a structure within the borders is destroyed, how many taxes are paid with the system, if someone has placed a scanner within the city borders.

I thought you probably did but I just wanted to be sure

Some other mails you would want to include are (but check the exact subject lines as I forget)

  • Structure added to your city

  • Citizen added to your city

  • Citizen left your city

  • Treasury Withdrawal

I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
