I am posting this in politician because it effects politicians.

On 05-25-04 about 5pm a group of players placed houses in my open city in time to take advatage of elections that night and take the city and my items in hall. I sent the following mail to all citizens.

You are getting this message because you were a member od BAD BEER Garden prior to 05-26-04 or you were one of those who planned the takeover - list below.

Xiaspora, Virgil-cold, -snoova-, Neiro, -Sandman-, -nightshade-, Dave', Bgzzhd, IROQ, Katlin, Rade, Myel, Joxer, Sokah, Dalmon,Jerjearod, Totalkaos, Pth'Findr

I had all my rare items and quest items in the hall, value between 10 and 20mil. These have been taken and the new mayor has refused to return them. I will be turning this in as an exploit and letting the powers that be decide if it is an exploit (and between us I think they might as it was preplaned and someone did homework to take advantage of game mechanics, only difference which makes it more concerning is they did not take advantage only of the game but of players as well) and if it is an exploit what action to take against those involved.

Cheers

sadly it is not an exploit

The city hall belongs to the people.. storing items there will likely to be stolen this way....

also the CSR might states that you should have "closed city" as in.. enable zoning rules... leaving it open just invites people to do this

We have similar rares on display but in our homes and/or PA halls.. and only a selected few (those items belong to) have access to these buildings

Unfortunately, this is not an exploit. As Sasheria had mentioned, the city hall belongs to the people and they decide you they want to represent them in the city hall. By enabling zoning rights you could had prevented that, but that would had eliminated your desire to an open city, which I applaud that someone has actually tried to do this.

It was probably planned. Anyone can access the city hall terminal. Once they knew when the next update was, they planted their houses, declare residency and then vote one of their friends in. And the staff at SWG is surprised that no one wants to have an open city? This is the reason why. Only way for politicians to protect their citizens from tactics such as this is to become a closed private community. We are no longer politicians, but gatekeepers.

A coup d'état certainly isn't very nice and I sympathize with you. My questions are:

  1. why wouldn't youplace zoning

  2. occasionally monitor the voting terminal

  3. why many of the citizens sided with the new mayor

  4. why have SUCH valuables items stored in City Hall and notelsewhere (house, bank, droidor even a factory ?)

If your citizens truely want you as mayor- they would either

  1. be doing their utmost to vote this person out, or

  2. leave the city

There's a little more involvedin being a mayorthan just overtaking a city. No citizenwill want to be in a city that is in a chaos. If all the new mayor only wanted your 20 million - he would've just taken it and RANleaving the citymayor-less but this doesn't seem to be the case. Itappears that thenew mayor is interested in remaining mayor andcontinues to havemore than 50% support.

It's certainly not an exploit. It's not a nice thing to have happen and I don't know why the new mayor wouldn't return your items.

There's a level of trust in the game and weoften do things that are risky andnot always "100% secure" - we put our vendors in other ppls houses, we do things and /tip rather than use the secure trade or we leave 20 million dollars of items in City Hall. Keep us posted.

Well no one had access to the items in the hall but the mayor, my other char, even my main could not.

I do monitor but these were 18 new houses dropped in one night.

I do not enable zoning - that was my mistake.

The 17 citizens that were part of my city will not stay in the new one

I understand that no one has access to items in the City Hall but the mayor who has soleownership.I wouldn'tput 20 million of items in there knowing there's a remote possibility thatsuch a thingcan happen. It's more reasonable to place another house yourself and using it or any of the other methods mentioned.

Wow, 18 overnight. That's quite a feat in itself.

If you have the support of 17 have them stay but cast their vote for you. I'm sure you can find some ppl (even for a price) interested in joining the city (at least for a short time)to return the coup. But, you still may not get your belongings unless you keep an eye on the votes, and the items in City Hall.

Good Luck

I am the mayor of a metropolis on Bria serrver on Dantooine and our city has zoning rights enabled! I hate to say it but you took the easy way out to get citizens by letting people plop down houses. To have a good city you have to work at it and actively recruit new residents for your city. You set yourself up and you only have yourself to blame. Hopefully, you learned that being Mayor means you have to be in control of your city.

It seems to me that those items in City Hall were public property once they were dropped.
