I guess it would be helpful to know what has precipitated the upheaval within the city. Is the problem with the guild, interactions between theguilds, unresolved city issues, etc....

Solely an upheavel in one of the large guilds. Nothing city-wide. But, we are a faction-allied city, rebel. Some of the dissenting guild members have been seen with many of the opposite faction. It is not my guild, we are good to go, and the owners/founders of the city. This guild in question is speaking of dividing into 2 guilds. Please ask any other questions, be glad to answer them to get some help

Without quite a bit more information, such as what initially caused this dissention in the other guild, how they feel about your guild and the city, and what the future plans are for all guilds involved and the city, it's very hard to give good advice. I will try to make a couple suggestions based on what I would do in your situation.

First, I would send emails to all the members of the guild in question asking them what their intentions are and where they see themselves in regards to being involved with the city. This will help gauge just where the dissention lies, if its the guild as a whole or just a few key members.

Second, I would send an email to "Citizens" so that just those who are declared residents receive it and ask their advice. It's amazing sometimes what the people in my city come up with when I ask for advice, and more often than not, they have very feasible, good solutions for problems at hand. Plus, this way you know you are doing what the people want so those who will be sticking around know you are on their side and are willing to listen to them and take their suggestions.

Third, I would figure out who the major players in the argument are and see if I could organize a meeting of sorts. Find out what's going on by acting as mediator between the two parties. This will help resolve problems between them, it will give you answers to your questions, and maybe foster an amicable solution that everyone can live with.

Since the militia cannot enforce laws the way they used to, diplomacy and tact are your primary weapons and should be utilized to the fullest. I wish you all the best.

As I found out last night, some of the non-citizens in the guild wanted their own guild and their own city. It seems like they were out to destroy the existing guild. It was a preplanned coup to take over leadership, with NON-citizens bashing my policies (which were made by the city council, of which has 2 of their guild in membership) and the citizens defending them. As I have repeatedly asked for folks to run for mayor, I am tired, 5 months of mayorship now, they really have no beef with me. The only problem these have with me, is that I will not let a major griefer, who they admitted into the guild, become a citizen. This player has even griefed me twice.

Second, I am going to send emails to the remaining guild members, letting them know they are still very welcome in the city. The provisional guild leader and I are working together on this (one of the dissidents was the guild leader, and he has left the guild now)

Emailing citizens for suggestions sounds great. I will do so.

As for a meeting, the guild had one last night. The differences were extreme, and several already left the guild. Most are non-citizens, who placed houses in the city and never declared, as are the rules of the city.

I started last night to reassure those left of my support for them. They have expressed that they need that and are grateful.

I will continue to post on this, to keep getting input from all, to allow more questions to help me, and to document any solutions or problems for other mayors who might run into this problem

I have 2 guilds in my city (note, I said my city - no city consuls). We are probably lucky, that the both guilds were started by people from the same dsibanded guild, but that's another story. I simply try to keep guild and city matters separate. Request from both guilds get equal attention on my part, and in return I expect (and do get) equal responce from my requests. Thus, so far there have been no trouble whatsoever. Sure, once in awhile somebody will try to stir some trouble, but those people can be dealt with quickly by simply talking to them. Most of the problems I had were personal in nature.

Find out what makes the "rebels" in your situation so upset with "your" policies, and try to find a compromise. For you, as a mayor, number 1 priority is to keep them in the city. Whenever they stay in one guild or brake into several bands should be up to them. In my city 2nd PA has it's own distinctive neighborhood. That seems to work out great.

Very good advice. I would add to ofcourse keep city and guild matters seperate. Especialy if they want to bring in people and those people don't declare. Basically not declaring means you don't get a say in the city's decisions. If some of those guild members want to leave? Let them. But if they are trying to cause problems and also trying to take good citizens with them you should step in and try to put a stop to it. What I suggest with that is to first ask the people who are heading the resistance to stop. Then confront the people who are being asked to join in on the rebellion to do what they want and that the city is open to thier decisions.

As I say to all my citizens and people who are considering to join, "We aren't a prison. We just ask that you tell us when you are going to leave and that you keep us in mind if you'd like to join again. We don't keep you locked down."

My two credits.
