I did a few searches, but didn't see anything about this. If this has been proposed before, sorry.

It seems to me that currently, elections are more or less broken. Mayors very infrequently have to worry about campaigning or not being re-elected, to the point that people are asking for help about transfer mayorial powers to somebody else because they want to resign. What I would propose would be to add a "real" election to the game, in the form of the Bestine election.

Rather than voting for Victor or Sean, people would vote for other PCs. There would be no incumbents, and you would need to have people actively vote for you. This would be restricted to some level of politicans (novice, master of a one track, or master politicans). The politican elected would then get to pick an aide (Victor or Sean), presumably they would pick when they enroll to be a candidate and this would be visible to the voters.

The reward for being elected for the mayorwould be something like a badge "... was mayor of Bestine". The current NPC rewards could be given to the players who voted for the winning politican. To compensate for the fewer rewards (more candidates, so fewer people voting for the winner), and to allow more people to get badges, elections might be sped up to be every week or two weeks.

There might need to be some way to prevent "the big PA" from winning every time... Then again, that's politics and if you have a large party, you have an advantage. (Not to mention large PAs currently can spike the NPC election anyway.)

Oh, and another reward might be to be able to grant zoning rights to Bestine, much like in a PC city. Maybe allow the mayor to gain temporary ownership of a static house in Bestine, be able to plant buildings, or grant zoning rights. However, everything which was built/owned would need to be reset at the next election.

This might be technically challenging for the devs though, and may or may not be worth it.
