Who doesn't like reading about corrupt mayor stories? Let's face it, this game is full of people and some people can be total jerks. Some try to play it off as roleplaying. Some are just plain corrupt.
Here's mine:
(This happened around April)
Ourguild city's mayor hadn'tlogged onin months soour guild decided it was time to vote in a new Mayor. Someone more active than our current mayor. Our new mayor was named Tamtel. None of us knew him, but he was the real-life husband of one of our guild members. We were all good friends with Tamtel's wife, Desiraee, so we had no reason not to trust Tamtel. Little did we know he was a corrupt mayor!
He had secretly contacted members of an enemy guild of ours and offered them zoning rights for money. Tamtel was trying to sell zoning rights to our enemies so they could place down houses in our city and grief us.
Luckily the enemy guild alerted us of his mis-deeds. He was promptly removed from the guild and so began hiscity griefing!
First he removed maintenance from the city hall. Then he destroyed the shuttleport, cloner, and removed all the trainers in the city. After that he raised the city taxes as high as possible.
We sent out a guild email that he needed to be voted out of office asap. While we were trying to vote him out, he destroyed the city hall! Thus, our city that had stood since the player cities were introduced, was gone.
To add insult to injury, he quickly set up a new city hall 1k meters away so that the Tatooine city cap would be reached again and we wouldn't be able to build a new city on Tatooine.
We sent in ticket after ticket to CSRs pleading for help and they didn't really care. Their response was "We're sorry that you are having problems with a corrupt mayor. Luckily in-game mechanics allow you to vote out mayors who become corrupt."
Guess the CSRs missed the part of the story where he DESTROYED THE CITY HALL! How can you vote out a corrupt mayor when he has the power to destroy the city hall when you try?
Anyways nothing was done about it by Csrs and that was that. Because of a corrupt mayor and a design flaw in politics, our guild city was gone.
Tamtel and his wife Desiraee soon quit the game afterwards (I probably would too if I did something like this that generated server-wide hate from everyone)
But it has a happy ending......
We got a new city on Naboo and have lived there ever since.

the story sounds familiar... either I've been at this job for too long, or maybe I've heard about this on Ahazi O.o
That's because it happened on Ahazi with DB and dark citadel

I have to sympothize with you on what happened to your city. Alot of what happened to it was exactly what happened to mine. In fact...what was once a city I worked hard to build officially poofed today. My city would have been one year old December 3rd. It was very sad standing where City Hall once stood. I only wish this new system would have gone into effect when we were trying to vote for the new mayor. We could have avoided losing our city.

i only heard these as rumors but some imp guild on Bria supposedly used to get a member to join a city and if zoning was on and they didnt get it revoked immediately the new resident would plant enough houses for his guild to take the town over. once the imp guild had a new mayor in place theyd destroy everything including the city hall.
Second rumor i also heard happened a few times involved mayors extorting 10-20-30 million cufrom town citizens to not destroy their city. the rumor also saidCSR's wouldnt do anything about it except the generic if your mayors corrupt vote him out replys or tell them if he does destroy it then they could report him for trade fraud. Seems a corrupt mayor was allowed to do this so long as he didnt destroy the city if he was payed.
Both are rumors, i never talked to anyone directly involved in either instance, but i could see that happening very slearly in both cases.

any chance the destruction of City hall part of that story is getting on the Poli top 10 list? I am all for political intrigue and the ability for mayors to eb corrupt. but it seems to me that it defeats the purpose if a mayor can instantly Poof the Town Hall. and stick his tongue out at the residents.

The worst thing I ever do is drop trainers and terminals for myself when I need 'em and don't feel like walking. Not really big into corruption.
Although now that we have the free decor spots from hitting metro I'm considering caging in a few wookiees with streetlamps when they aren't looking

I've brought this up to a dev myself, but got no response. I guess I'll categorize it as a "easier said than done", and wait

Strangely enough, this has just happened to my city on Farstar. Mos Wroshyr was one of the oldes and largest cities on the server until it went poof on X-Mas day. Strangely enough the new mayor at the time, was a guy named Tamtel... no sign of the griefing or anything. He basically got voted in at the last minute, and a day later complains about recieving hate mail, and deletes his character. Since the mayor owns the town hall, the city goes when that does.
Now it is 99% unlikely that we will be able to rebuild our city, as others are already waiting in line to get their own shuttleport. Game over for this town...
People want to believe it's coincidental that this guys name was also Tamtel, but now I'm not so sure. After all, nobody ever proved there were hatemails sent to this guy.
But the end of the day, I'd like to thank SOE for one majorly borked city syste...
