Politician Archive
Thread: I'm still loving Politician! If you do too, help me complete this poem :-)
Greetings!
Yes, several weeks on and with Master Politician in the next few days in my grasp I'm still lovin' it.
I can't exactly say why, butperhaps it is becauseI have been lucky enough to avoid all the bugs, have had every election run on time and have beaten off all opposition easily with no griefing and because the city now finances itself (20,000 visitors a week goes a long way!)
I'm so happy being a mayor, I wrote a little poem and I'd like each you to add a new verse if you see fit. When it is done I will put it on the Darkfire City web site (DARKFIRECITY.COM). ![]()
Burning up my skills points,
Burying usin tells,
Life to some as Mayor,
Would be their equivalent of Hell.
But from deciding all the taxes,
To helping all the newbies,
The job is strangely rewarding,
Despite some of the dull duties.
What started withthree houses,
Is now a metropolis of hundreds more,
We used to watch the storms roll in,
Now you can't even see the floor.
At first people were begged to stay,
Now they beg to come,
Who could have dreamed that all of this,
Could become so much fun?
Despite all the trolls on here,
I think SOE have done a good job,
Since when could $15 a month,
Keep you entertained for so long?
When they took away CITYWARN,
It really made me mad,
But I've found you can rely on your citizens,
To remove those who are bad.
To sign-on in the evening,
And to see the queuein my officeform,
Was at once a very scary thing,
Now it's just the norm.
But the happiness of the people,
And the growing sense of pride,
Means no matter how bumpy it gets,
I'm staying for the ride!
...
being the mayor's wife is fun,
so i love it too,
i get lots of presents,
but i've got duties to do ![]()

Great poem, Havoclord. ![]()
I've said before that one of the great things about the Politician is just that it is a completely different kind of game from the other professions. Folks have complained that there is no way besides elections to gain XP, but look at the freedom from grinding missions that gives you. If you did have to grind out missions: "Take this bill to the Capitol building and deliver it to the Senator there and return with a signed law..." then we'd be no different in our gameplay than any of the other mission-grinding professions, except for the wording of the delivery missions we were running.
Yeah, sometimes I feel a little constrained by the investment I've had to make with my skill points into politician, but my old primary profession, one I still have, is Master Doctor, which I do because I like the feeling of being useful to my fellow players. I know that in this role as politician I am doing something for them that has to be done by someone, and that can be done well by me.
I'm glad to haveone profession in the gamethat is based more on player-to-player contact, answering tells, replying to mail, responding to requests for zoning or militia status, than out farming combat XP or grinding crafting XP.
whoops.
