Thread: City Specialization Question

I have a question regarding a city specialization, specifically Research Center.

Do only citizens of a city (own house, declared residence within city limit) get the benefit of this city specilization, or would any player who has access to a private crafting station, working within the city limit, get the benefit?

IE, if a friend of mine had his declared residency in a city with the Research Center specialization, and put me on the admin list so I could use his crafting stations within it, would I get the benefit of the specialization?

As far as I know anybody in the city limits gets the bonus... but we've had it for awhile now and we haven't been able to see any bonus to our crafters... The Talusian Trade Federation is full of traders (artisans) so we have a lot of people testing it. So far we see nothing that justifies 125k a week.

Anyone know if this specialization actually works??

I talked with the mayor of a research center the other day and she gave me the impression that it was quite noticable. Also another one of my friends on a different server uses that specialty, and they like it very much. I have yet to test it myself. I'm just curious if I have to be a citizen of the town to get the bonus.

You can walk into a city and either pull out a droid or find a private crafting station and get the bonus. I have noticed that the result is very noticeable in my crafting. I wonder if the schematic difficulty makes the bonus more or less noticeable. IE, if you're experimenting an object with a difficulty of 5 you would get a lot of great success, etc anyways. But if you make something with a diff of 40 lets say, the great and amazing successes might be fewer and farther between.

All I can say is when our Mayor has the skill, I'm asking him to do it and I'll pay the weekly rate for it.

The effects are very noticeable.

Here is an example of how it is working for me. I am an architect and I need ore mining units for heavy extractors. If I use good resources, the highest effective rating I can get is 94-96%. When I do the initial combine I come out with 27%.

In a city without research specialization it will take me all 10 skill points to get the effectiveness up to its max. And I can only do it 3 out of 5 times. It takes amazing andgreat success to reach the max.

In a city with research specialization I can get to the max using only 8 skill points and have two left over.

As an architect having two points left over doesn't do me much good. But for weaponsmiths you can now experiment 2 functionalities, ie damage and speed, higher than before. For Drs they can experiment effectiveness and doses higher then before. Combat medics can experiment damage and duration higher than before.

It is really noticeable for people who experiment two line items. Now if people were thinking they could get one item 15% better than before you can't. I had hoped I could take my 95% effective ore mining unit and get a 105% or so, but that isn't how it works. Also, some people thought it would give them 2 extra experimentation points at the beginning, it doesn't do that. It let you achieve the same results with fewer experimentation points, thus leaving points for that second line item.

Research Center works amazingly well, there was even a post someone made doing research to prove if it was doing anything, and sure enough it was.
