Thread: I am SO ENRAGED!!
Last night my city grew on Naboo from lvl 2 to lvl 3 to be met with the notification that my expansion was denied as there are too many lvl 3 cities on the planet!!
I, along with a couple of others, worked so hard in mapping outour city and placing the houses in semetric alignment trying to best accomodate placement preferences of the residents. We acheived 37 citizens before the upgrade last night. We were so estatic andso looking forward to the placement of the hospital today. Now our hard earned city is condemmed to remain at lvl 2 with no hospital placement ability. We could live w/o the shuttle port but not w/o the hospital and cloning center.
It is obvious that the developers have no idea how much work and energy one puts into making a beautiful, well planned, functional city. I am so enraged, I must take a day or so away from game and make the decision whether the $15.00 a month is worth all of this frustration, disappointment and inequity.
I'm sorry that you are being limited by the caps on city sizes, but when the original planetary caps were changed, and the size limit imposed, it was well documented and posted on both these forums, and on the main swg website as well as in the . If you were unaware of the size caps on the added cities, the blame needs to fall partially on SOE for forcing people to come to these forums to know how to play the game, and parially on the players for not keeping up with the documentation for their professions.
To be blunt, they cannot allow everyone to be able to place a city or for all cities to be full size by limitations of both computer power and for realism sake. Planets would become wastelands of player cities which right now, at least on my server, every player city I have seen could easily afford to double or triple in player size, and yes, they have the room for it too.
As SWG is a game in constant development because it wasn't complete when released and things still do not work, regretfully, the only way to know what is going on is to spend a good hour or two a day cruising these forums.
I'm sorry your dreams of a city were shattered by the caps.
i aggree i too am sorry for the inability for you to have a growing city ..
I would suggest instead of getting better and enjoying a "slowly improving" game.. take your energies and join up with another city .. many mayors are realizing by now that to run a successful and thriving metropolis it does take alot of work.. mainly trying to keep the masses happy ... join up.. we are takeing larger groups in .. even letting them have a section of the free space to design with their own creative interests..
if it were me.. i would want to be involved with a city that has no limitations.. I dont know what server you are on but i am sure that their are cities on your server that would welcome the help..
It doesnt necesarilly have to be Your city .. to make one great...
there also a chance that some city may fall.. there have been some cities that fall.. due to internal issues.. and you might raise to level 3.. some day..
Unless you started your player city during the first round when the patch first hit, you are operating at a huge disadvantage, but you knew that going in to it, or you should have. I applaud your resolve, but frankly, I'm not sure it's worth it when there are already very well-developed player cities, fully-functional and spread across all planets on all servers.
So, I guess you're faced with a difficult choice. You and your citizens either put aside your "me too, me too" mentality and join up with another, older player city, or you make the best of the situation and do what you can to market yourselves as a quiet village that's off the beaten path.
I seriously doubt it's that the devs don't understand the work that goes into cities. They've already stated many times that too many large player cities result in a proliferation of structures that are hard on the servers. That, more than the devs being mean and targetting you to make you miserable, is the culprit.

I agree there with you Solanis about the people who say 'join another city" ..From what Ive read these people are normally the ones who follow up with the comment of "Well, Im a mayor of 100+ citizens...blah, blah, blah"
The point here is that this person got the 35 citizens. Let em have the hospital. I dont see what the issues is with SOE on this. Any building in a City can act like a hospital/cantina nowanyways.
For the person who posted....I guess the only other alternative is to put up a building and just name it "Hospital". Sounds lame but not much more u can do at this time. Also, keep trying/checking about the placement of ur hospital. You never know if one of those level3 cities lose their status
Here is the post I just made to the correspondent's forum with regard to this issue:
There's a pretty-much-non-stop stream of theads in the politician forum from mayors of cities that did not grow to the next rank as they expected. I'm sure every one of these folks has filed CSR requests, and probably has asked their citizens to do the same thing for the same reason, flooding the CSRs with complaints over what is probably in many cases a city-growth cycle that has not malfunctioned at all.
Yes, there are tons of city update issues due to something on the servers, multiple updates, no politician XP, but for all of these situations where the city failed to grow as expected, it probably comes down to one thing, the city cap.
When the city updates and has enough citizens to grow to the next rank and fails to do so, a message should be generated for the mayor explaining why the city did not advance. "Dear Mayor, your city was not able to advance due to the limit of X number of Y-size cities on planet Z."
For players to expect one result, get something else, and never get any game feedback leaves them feeling that there has been a bug or malfunction of some kind, even when everything has worked as it should.
I don't know if this is the case for you or not, but it is a needed feature to prevent confusion for players affected by the city cap.
Yeehawww Baj......go get em!!!!! Just one more suggestion for you to add. There should be away that people can see the number of each type ofcity levels on the planet. If there are caps then players should know what the status is on the planet so as not to waste their time.
It could be possible that the person here who posted might of completely wasted his/her time all along in that the planet already hit its cap days earlier.
Happy Trails.

Tackled that in this thread:

Honestly I hate all this anti-city propaganda. People complain there is too many cities, well regardless those structures would be there anyway, what is one extra cloning center and med center for a town (like our own) that was not able to get on the server fast enough the first time around, because of real life reasons or other matters. People complain that there are too many shuttleports and that maps clog up their maps. As for shuttleports, perhaps there should be a 3k from a non-player city limit to have a shuttleport, and as for clogging your map, the suffering that clogged map gives is nothing compared to a town that worked hard to get citizens and is now denied the right to place a medical center. Capping cities and keeping them at a certain growth rate is ridiculous, those player houses will still exist its just that now those people in that city will feel like their work is worthless. Not to mention the limit on decorations. People say join another city, why would a city of 35 citizens, who I'm sure are already a community, want to join up with a group of strangers in a city they did not build and support a mayor they do not know. Community is what this game is about; stop griping about how there is already too many player cities and start supporting community in this game. The only ones who are saying join another city is those who already live in a city with a shuttleport and medical center.
I know i am going to sound like an A$$ here.. but seriously some of u need to get off your high horse...
its to easy to say boo hoo.. i was cheated.. and that because he got a city and i didnt.. He is a no life no job no nothing.. come on.. get real..
the fact is there are limits.. and if you missed the boat.. you have to choices.. cry btch and moan.. making your experience in swg even more miserable ..... OR.... get on a new boat and make the best of it..
it has nothing to do with I have 100 peeps and am already rank 5.. or if i have 55 peeps and am rank 3.. if you have the drive and ambition to leave your mark on this game why cant you build on someone elses foundation..i know thereare plenty that have started a great foundation .. but truth of the matter is if you want to make something that will last well beyond your subscription here it will take more than one person involved with a dream. to many of you think sort term.. and wonder why you get burnt out..
you get up into rank 3+ city it all becomes about compromise anyway .. this group wants this .. that group wants that.. IF YOU CANT do this now.. then you are wasting your time anyway...
we didnt make the rules.. so dont take out your frustrations on those already involved with a city ...
