What happens if a mayor quits before the election? Do you lose the hall or does the next person with votes become mayor?

Please help!

There doesn't seem to be any logic allowing for the incumbant not to be re-elected except by being defeated.

We know for sure that these do not work:

- Mayor drops Novice Politician

- Mayor leaves city (declares residence elsewhere)

- Mayor cancels account

It is feasible that the last might work after a period of time (when the char is dropped from the database) - but given that nothing else seems to have been coded for, it will probably just result in no one winning election.

Does the mayor voting for another candidate do anything? Will it transfer the support of all of her voters to the new candidate?

Theres gotta be a better way...

No the former mayor is actually waiting to start a new city on another planet... So she is merely leaving the city. But as I'm sure most people involved with large cities know its a real pain in the ass to get everyone to vote at all let alone get them to vote fora specific person...

As it stands the incumbant mayor (the one leaving) has like 54 votes. Thats a pretty big problem for her because she wants to place the new hall right after the election... Its also a big problem for us because we need to get a new mayor into office so we can move on...

So basically how can the mayor quit their post? Is there ANY way at all short of either voting them out or them destroying the hall?

What bugs me a little about the whole thing is that the votes don't seem to carry over, fair enough it is up to a person to 'enter the race' so to speak, but in the interests of fairness, when this occurs, shouldn't the automatic voting go out window and ensure that people have to vote for whom out of the two or threethey would like to see elected. Surely it can't be that hard to program? Fair enough someone could come in at the elventh hour and enter the race and thus vote for themselves and thus then win, but to tackle that, would be that they'd enter with 1 vote (there own) and the other candidates would keep what they have (basically like the auto thing, only not like the current one which takes 'all citizens' to the incubents vote).

The mayor of our city is leaving and i have been asked to take over. The only way we can think of doing it is to effectively "rig" the election. The priginal mayor still runs but tell all your citizens to vote for the replacement mayor.

What i want to know is this: The current mayor is pretty high up the tree. But i am only a novice politician. If i win the election will some city strucures (cloning center, bank, gardens etc.) disappear? I don't have enough skill to place them myself so will they just vanish from the city untill i can replace them?

As long as the city maintains the needed level for the city structures, you do not remove them, and the city continues to have the fundsrequired for the structures they will remain regardless your politican level.

Korrack, I think that statement is a little harsh for him....As you know, we are both on the same planet....Even with all of the /tells that you mentionedyour new mayor only got 60% of the vote. What about the other 40% of the players in your city? Did they simply just not remember or take the time to vote or really cared? Even a very organized group like yours didnt get much over the majority. Foretunately y'all are a large guild. But for those cities that arent guild driven I can see how difficult this could be......

Yeah it ws harsh I guess, but I stick by it. 60% of the people votes for Magna within a day and a half. Not a week, not two weeks, very little organization. Had we done it over a week, maybe 80% of the people would have voted for Magna, maybe more.

I apologize for being harsh, but I see too many cities in my travels that have zero active citizens, no shops, no real reason to be there except that a group of people wanted to have a metropolis without having the people live there. They shut off the city to outsiders and allow no new people to join. I doubt this was ever the intention for cities to be. Cities should not be made of inactive players. Hell in Vicimus we are trying to figure out ways to get rid of the inactive citizens and their homes. People have quit the game, people have deleted their characters, yet they still count as citizens and have homes that are there seemingly forever.

Ghosttowns are ruining the ability for new groups to form cities. Anyone who doesn't log in within a few week period has either quit the game, or is a ghost citizen. The city caps are there for a reason, the servers cannot handle the load caused by cities. I don't defend bad code by SOE or a stupid bloated database, I only present facts. Player cities should be for what their name infers, players. I may not be popular for my views, but my views on player inactivitiy are at least fair. What do we say to someone who joins the game a year from now, and they start a guild, build it up from newbies, gain allies in a few other guilds, have over 100 players organized, and want to start a city.

"I'm sorry, we have reached our cap of player cities, so you can't have one, but the 3 guys over here who have a metropolis with 80 inactive players or cross server trade citizens get to be a city"

Because we cannot have quantity in player cities, we as mayors should be striving for quality. The city cap is a reality, and always will be. And inactive players need the boot. It should take no more than a few weeks to get every player in a city to vote the way you want. 100% voting is no unrealistic or at least it shouldn't be.

Sorry to drone on so much, I just feel rather strongly about this.

Hello,
In hopes we'll find generous players without bloodfin residences we are looking for temporary residents to over-throw an afk mayor and populace. It may take a week or two to get all the voting together but I've had little luck getting folks in the city interested in an organized cross-server trade. That said, I'm fairly certain that there are citizens willing to do so, I just can't promise much of anything as the voting population level in the city seems to be around 15 of 60. I realize that's it's a pain to login and create a new character, but you'll find that your travel, housing and maint are all provided so if you start a character on Corellia you will be basically waiting for a shuttle out to Dant and a trip to the city. This is a plea to find if any mayor could rally a group to create a second character on bloodfin. The time involved is minimal and we should be able to do this in a few short cycles if we can get a group to move in. Last weeks election ended with 20 for the non-afk member and 40 afk votes. Please consider making a temporary character on Bloodfin to help us save our city. Contact Bloodfin.Madam or Bloodfin.Solen and explain that you are interested in ousting a mayor that cannot play SWG anymore. (His machine died and he can't afford to replace it. We've had no luck getting him to give us a login and password).

I was overthrow 2 weeks ago. I sent a mail out to citizens telling them to vote for the new mayor. The new mayor added everyone who was a citizen to her friend's list and /telled everyone to death as they logged on. She won with about 60 % of the vote. Wasn't too hard, just took some work. If you can't get 50% of your citizens to be active within a 1 or 2 week period to vote out the old mayor, you really shouldn't have a city. Wait for the 6 week inactivity to kick in, you'll require less votes to vote out the mayor.
