Thread: Political Dilemma: To Run or Not To Run.

When player cities first came out, I was originally budding for a city on Naboo headed by Sunrunner guild Royal Academy of the Arts. Unfortunately, Athena Beach, as it is now called, didn't make it under that first hectic city cap.

Then I moved for a short time to Talus, where the city hall had been accidentally placed over a hostile MOB, so that although it would never attack you, approaching the hall would light your Radar up with hostiles.

Now, I live in a city-class establishment on Dantooine called Terra Rosa. When I first joined Terra Rosa, it was a bustling, busy city full of people and promise. Now, it seems as if Terra Rosa is becoming more and more a fall-apart neighborhood.

Many of our most concerned citizens attribute this somewhat to our current and only mayor Emack being present only sparsely. We talked at length with Emack, even called an impromptu meeting together, to address some issues. In that meeting, he assured us his absence was only temporary and that he would start management of the city again soon.

He also outlined that anyone willing to run for mayor had his blessings.

As of now, he is still scarce to see.

I have been considered by some his 'rival' of sorts, challenging decisions and making comments on running for mayor. Now, faced with a declining city and a lacking mayor, I find myself in a position that I may just need to take in as mayor, even for a short time.

Mayor Emack has spent large sums of cash to get the city started, more cash that I have even DREAMED of in my game-time. He also dedicated lots of time and effort into making the city what it is and was. My question to you, is, should I take mayorship of Terra Rosa, and see if I can possibly revive the city some, or should I give Mayor Emack a better chance to do so himself?

Politically yours,

Its always going to be up to the people. Run for mayor, if you get the votes, you're obviously wanted. Then if the previous mayor becomes more active he can run against you and try and sway people back to his side.

So long as you aren't in danger of the previous mayor deleting the city hall (which doesn't seem to be the case from what you said) then I would go for it. Even as a part time interim measure.

Try it and see what happens, if you don't get the votes and can't obtain mayorship it was still worth a try.

Let the citizens decide. I'm sure they can make a suitable choice on which one to pick when you run for office.

there is a quirk about voting - as soon as you register, the incumbent mayor will automatically, by deafult, get all the votes from all the citizens. Your supporters will have to go to the terminal and change their votes (simply vote for you). This means that incumbent mayor doesn't need to move a finger to get votes from his citizens, while you need to make sure you have enought citizensto get the majority ofvoters (you can see number of citizens on the city terminal). So, if you have a majority on your side you have nothing to worry about. If your city consist of a big percent of inactive players, then your attempts will be all but fruitless. Or at least it can take awhile.

Run now, before the folk in the middle decide that the inaction makes it not worth sticking around.

Howdy

I havent seen this suggested yet but why not ask him if you could take over. If his RL is causing him not to be around i would rather run for election with his support then try to rif the city away from him..

Good Luck

As Wildman said, RL can have you not be available a lot for all of the usual reasons. Your mayor seems like a nice guy who is very busy, have a chat about this with him.

Best way to deal with the tall guys is to give them incentives to lick the ground. And dont look down on me that way youre not THAT taller.

I say go for it. Politicians are supposed to serve the public, and in a democracy, they are allowed to elect a new mayor. If the uncumbent really cared about the city and the time he put into it, then he SHOULD have appointed someone to replace him.

I am prone to ignoring people who I find annoying, both in the game and on the forums. If it seems like I am not responding to your posts, it is probably because you have very little worth saying.

If you read the post you'd realise they already chatted with him and he said he'd be fine with someone else running for mayor.

Some people need to be handheld to do things. Leadership and decision making is not as common in people as they would like to think.

Toran: Of course the existing mayor would say that. However, if it is really the case then why in the heck did this person even start this thread. Either way according to him/her they have the existing mayors blessing so there is no "Political Dilemma"
