Thread: Question: Without Specialization, why bother with Hospital or Cantina?
I've been meaning to ask this for awhile:
If only a Master Dancer, Musician or Chef can place a Cantina (and a Master Doctor or Combat Medic the Med Center), and they both take up Lot space of the placer, and the City is not planning to Specialization in either Medical Center nor Entertainment District, why would someone bother placing these structures?
All functions that can be performed in them can be performed in a Private home, as far as I know. That means any ol' house can be used as such, for less Lot space, less maintenance and by anyone not yet a Master anything.
Is the latter functionality of private homes to be disallowed within a City radius? Or does a Cantina, Theatre and Med Center provide a bonus or ability that isn't possible in a private house?
I agree... there needs to be some sort of benefit... and since it requires Master to place, an xp bonus is no good.
I would recommend:
1) Facility takes no lots. A given character may only have 1 of these facilities.
2) Placer may charge a cover fee (or office visit fee in the case of a medical facility)
A cool idea would be to allow the owner to charge a % of the tips, but in exchange the entertainers get an equal % bonus to XP.
Ah ok, I think I get it.
There's no functional difference. I agree it's better for a City to have them, because of how they look and what they represent.
However, them not providing any functional difference from your average house makes them far less a priority for groups not specifically into being a Sanitarium of Healers or a Musical Colony right away.
Our City will have one of each, in time. But the Lot space they use is to be put towards more immediate and relevant uses.
As to visitors, I don't know many who don't run around with the overhead map on when exploring a new city. Heck, we could have a single Large house labelled as the healing center ![]()
also you can register it to the map which are novice skillz for both the Dancer and Musician.

you can charge a cover just like a house... it is registreable on the planetary map and you can have gambling and actual bars and stages... these do make it betet then anything else.... however even this being true... our city will start as the PA hall as our med center/ cantina so we can have the most important buildings first ie clone and shuttleport
