Thread: will there be any way to stop dictators from ruling cities
Ok so you built the city and rule with an iron fist. Is democracy forced on you by the Devs or can you just boot anyone, even rival polititions, from the city.
I can see problems in both cases.
If dictators are allowed the people will not have any choice in their leader and if it is a large city moving away could be a huge ordeal, especially if you can't take your house with you.
but also if democracy is forced on us by mandating elections or something, then anyone such as an oppossing faction could come in and run for mayor and destroy the town just for fun. While this would be realistic, I don't think the gameplay would be very fun.
I'm sorry if these questions were answered for sure one way or the other but all I've found are guesses.
Please only post dev based fact.
Well, they say that in a democracy you get the government you deserve. In SWG, you also get the electorate you deserve. At least at first (as described by Plinka in Answers) the politician gets to approve or deny new residents in the first "circle". So, no one gets to vote unless you let them settle there. If you are suddenly surrounded by griefers in the next "circle" you can decide not to expand your city and try to attract more aligned residents to the inner "circle" so that you feel you can control a vote. So this helps. Because you have to be registered to vote, it is possible that someone can drop a small house to pretend that they are a resident and will vote against you, without actually being a resident. But if you can get folks to agree to stay in the central area, or get more citizens who like you, you will be OK and the griefers will be wasting a lot of time.
As far as dictatorship it appears that (again from Answers) there are weekly votes. If enough people get tired of you, you are out.
It has been mentioned my Plinka that the only public structure a /banned player can enter is the city hall. So if you /ban a political rival he still can access the city terminal to register to run,
