Thread: Election didn't work...

So to start this off, I ran for mayor in my player city. The current mayor hasn't been online for a few weeks, so a few citizens interested in rebuilding our city (sliding downhill) decided that we would pick it up and try to rebuild. I registered over a week before the election, was the only one running, and received 12 votes. The election was held today and the e-mail went out that the incumbent mayor was victorious...though he didn't register for the election. I also received the XP for all the votes cast.

I'm now wondering if there is a bug where a mayor that doesn't register for an election still receives automatic votes from all the citizens that don't vote. The city and the current mayor have been around for a while before the change requiring votes to be cast manually.

I put in a CSR ticket on it, and hopefully this will get worked out. I am, however, wondering if this is a known bug that I haven't seen. I've only been checking this page for the last few weeks since the issue of the city was raised to me.

this might be a bug that only affected your city for some strange reason. I would suggest contacting a CSR about this.

i'm a new mayor and from all the research I did before running, the way i understand it is...it's a 3 weeks race, but you must register within the first 2 weeks, that last week is just for campaigning time, so that's why that happened. And also, whether you win or not, you will recieve xps for the votes you did get, so hurry up and register again, and wait for the 3 weeks, as long as u got majority, u should win this next time.

Note that I said I registered more than a week before the election. That's not the problem

Update:

I received the following response from CSR Jon W:

"Our logs indicate that the incumbent mayor received 20 votes to win the election. Unfortunately we cannot confirm that these are due to absentee votes, as we did not see the terminal before the votes were tallied- all we see is that this player received 20 votes." (ticket 2993116)

He then closed the ticket so I couldn't follow up on it, and made no attempt at contact.

I've made another ticket indicating this one, and pointing out that the incumbent mayor never registered to run in the election. Throughout the cycle the only options on the terminal were to vote for me, or to abstain. I fail to see how he could receive 20 votes when he never registered, thus never was an option to vote.

What I really don't understand is the "absentee votes" comment... What are these? This really irks me since I basically got a "go away" response without any real attempt to find out if it was a bug and what the problem was. Am I missing something, in that there is some option to always vote for someone even if they haven't registered to run for mayor?

um, the CSR is probably not aware that player cities no longer have absentee votes. I would suggest that you email [email protected] and write down everything that has happened there.

The really odd part of it all is that the city has 89 citizens. After the 12 votes that I managed to drum up, absentee votes would have numbered significantly more than 20.

I hate to say it, but I think I just got another CSR brush-off...though I really hope he didn't just pull the number 20 votes out of the air to do it.

At any rate, I've made the e-mail that you suggested. We'll see of more comes of it.

I learned the hard way that the incumbant mayor doens't have to register to vote, the only reason they do is to get the xp's. If someone clicked on abstain at the terminal those votes get counted toward the current mayor. So hopefully, the citizens didn't vote for him on purpose

hrm, "abstain" should mean that a citizen chooses not to vote. if a mayor doesn't register, he shouldn't be able to get any votes. it's probably a bug, and I'll keep that in mind.

Abstain shouldnt even be there! If it meant they didnt want to vote, they could....well, not vote. Having that there only causes people to get confused.

anyways, an email would have gone out if the incumb mayor had registered to run to get votes...if no email went out, it should not be possible for them to win. That might be one more bit of info to send to SOE...

I'm wondering if Abstain is there to work around the previous system that defaulted votes to the incumbent. Instead of changing the code to only register manual votes, maybe they default to abstain instead?

CSRs have reached a new low for me...

I received a response on my second ticket. It reads:

"In this regard I would inform you that the election has not run yet. You need to wait until the election takes place."

Ok, so I registered and ran in time for the last election, we all received the notice that the incumbent mayor won, but the election hasn't run yet? The city updated, the voting terminal reset for the new election...did I miss something? I haven't registered in this one yet, so I don't see how he might think that was the issue...

Am I just getting the coldest wave of CSRs ever? How do you get one that has one iota of interest in a problem?
