It's too bad you can't be a politician without comprimising your othere skills.
I am working toward Master Pistoleer and Ranger. If I try to do a little politicking to help support my city, I can't--without losing the skill points I need to make Master Ranger and Pistoleer.

Many run into this problem. Currently for the Top 5 Politician "wants" the skillpoints it takes to Master may or may not be adjusted but for now it's something we all have to deal with. What i suggest is to look into joining an already established city- which i know there are many on Gorath
Solace or Comptonbeing the Imperial Cities and Seven or Triumph being the Rebel Cities.

Believe it or not, I already am. Unfortunately, our Mayor had been out of commission for a almost 2 months. No one is running the city.

You don't really have to be a master politician by the way ... you should be able to manage a city quite well with 0-1-2-4 ... and that's only if you have large or exotic gardens you are constantly replacing.

Sry if this sounds like party killing but come on they need to keep skill points makes sure not every1 just becomes a politician for the fun of it. Then for a bit of a fun like the peps who blow up turrets at da village (i really do feel like slaping them) they would vote in to politics and get peps to vote for em and totally destroy a good successful town!

Too bad you cant do politican like the JTL Pilot professions...quest based...
I remember seeing something about giving quests to Player Cities (i think it was Zina's post in the housing forums)...involving Quests w/ Cities would be very cool, and give guilds something to do!
Anyways, I could only imagine abuse and grief if there was a city that was multi-guild or no guild at all...but for those cities that are 1-guilded, prolly no problem at all. Thats why our city is one-guild only, we had a very bad experience with a multi-guild city, and its just easier and a lot more fun being on our own as we're a great bunch of people that love having fun and chatting with one another (btw that other guild, their leader was a bit loopy not to mention! She tried to get a cybering cafe into the Cantina!)

yeah i actually had to get an extra account when our mayor left the game and I needed to take over. I didn't have the heart to drop any of my skills on my established character. I'm actually having fun with the new toon though. Surprisingly mayor can be alot of fun if you role-play it. But yeah - lowering the SP on it would be nice because i really SHOULDN'T be paying another $15/month. Though then again i shouldn't say that.... they might not lower the SP if they realize it would cost them.... *shuts up*

its sad really, this skill point sink is being addressed and some politicians are actually complaining about it!!!!
My god!!! Dont you see the freedom you have been given!!!
I know , I know - "but but anyone can run now and not have to cripple their character" - that is the beauty of it!
so what, you have to try to keep your citizens happy, but if you are in a situation where you cant do anything to keep them happy, do you really want to be there anyways?
And as for the maint addressed in TC - that is why it is a test, there may be more to it gang. Maybe a mayor can relocate those condemmed houses to the outskirts of the city. Maybe the six month character purge will clean up those "derelict" houses anyways.
I think these changes are great for the politician profession and are much needed to breathe life into many player cities again!
Relax mayors , its for the best

My friend Pammiesue has acted as defacto mayor, and then really became the mayor at a previous point in time. The limitations on her skill points have made gaining padawan after impossible.
The thing that makes you a mayor in this game, to me, is a result of your actions in developing the community.
